General Information
The Liberal Democracy Institute of Egypt (LDI) is a Cairo-based think tank dedicated to studying, promoting, and advising policymakers on advancing human rights and fighting violent extremism, with the purpose to realize the long-aspired liberal democratization in Egypt. The Liberal Democracy Institute of Egypt (LDI) is registered in Egypt as a human rights non-profit non-governmental organization under license no. 10159/2016.
Mission and Objectives

Vision:
LDI’s work is inspired by a vision to see Egypt becoming a secure and stable liberal democratic state, where citizens enjoy civil rights, economic welfare, and freedom from fear of violent extremism.
Mission:
LDI mission is channeled into two parallel and interdependent tracks:
The first track is to study, educate citizens, and advice policymakers on best practices to achieve liberal democratization through advancing human rights and civil freedoms.
The second track is to help Egypt in its ongoing fight against all forms of "Islamic" violent extremism, which represents a serious threat, not only to the lives of innocent citizens and stability of the nation, but also to the advancement of liberal democracy and protection of human rights.
How we pursue our mission:
To pursue our mission, LDI employs research and advocacy mechanisms on two main levels:
1.   Government:
a. Monitoring and evaluating the performance of government, executive authority, and parliament in terms with respecting and protecting constitutional rights;
b. Advising policymakers, based on scientific research and documentation, on how to fight the ongoing threat of Islamic violent extremism in Egypt and the Middle East; and
c. Providing policy recommendations, innovative solutions, and direct consultations to state officials and parliamentarians on issues related to fighting corruption, human rights, women’s rights, and religious freedom.

2.  Public Citizens:
a. Educating citizens and disseminating knowledge on basic civil rights guaranteed by the Egyptian constitution and international treaties on which Egypt is a signatory;
b. Empowering politically marginalized groups (e.g. religious minorities, women, and youth) through on-hands training and involvement to play a political role in the newly transforming Egypt; and
c. Channeling a dialogue between ordinary citizens and government officials on municipal and national levels to guarantee direct citizen involvement in the decision-making process.

Main Projects / Activities

1. Research on advancing human rights and fighting violent extremism in Egypt:
* Analysis Reports: (Read our reports: https://www.egyldi.org/analysis-tqdyr-mwqf
* Public Opinion Surveys: (Read our survey analyses: https://www.egyldi.org/surveys-asttlaaat-ray)
* Documentation: (Review our documentation reports: https://www.egyldi.org/documentation-twthyq)

2. Advocacy: (Visit page: https://www.egyldi.org/advocacy-mshrwaat
* Supporting State Decision Making: Monitoring the performance of government authorities and parliament and advising policymakers on human rights, liberal democratization, and fighting terrorism.
* Monitoring elections: We monitored Egyptian parliamentary elections of 2015 and plan to monitor all the next presidential and parliamentary elections in Egypt.
* Watch the Human Rights Watch: A campaign to monitor the performance of international NGOs for political biase and abuse of their human rights status.
* The Popular Campaign against Muslim Brotherhood: an international campaign to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization based on documenting their violent crimes in Egypt since the ouster of their regime in 2013.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are studying, promoting, and advising policymakers and grassroot citizens on advancing liberal democratic values and merits while effectively fighting violent extremism. Our positive relationship with policymakers, including presidnetial office, state authorities, and Parliament on one hand, and our influence on grassroot citizens, especially women and youth on the other hand can make us a perfect fit for Anna Lindh national network in Egypt. We can help deliver the voice of our network to policymakers and expand our campaigns to include unified missions and vision of network members for the good of Egypt.
Meanwhile, our research and public opinion surveys could be used by network members as guidelines for how to manage they daily activities and long term goals to guarantee the greatest influence they seek on grassroots citizens.
Our Founding Director, Dalia Ziada is a former laureate of Anna Lindh Journalism Award. She enjoys great relations with fellow NGOs worldwide, which she can utilize to support the work of Anna Lindh Egypt's network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We are seeking to grow our organization connections and presence in Europe. Almost all countries on the Mideterranean region are facing the same threat of fighting terrorism and carry the same burdens of promoting good governance and human rights. We need to partner with like-minded organizations in our Mideterranean region to have a bigger influence on addressing these two issues in the next years.

General Information
The organization The Hague Peace Projects was brought to life by four individuals who all work in the field of human rights and conflicts. Together, they agreed that more could be done to provide people in Europe and in countries of conflict with genuine, reliable information about these conflicts. Far too often news reports and human rights organizations focus only on the symptoms of war: explosions, number of deaths and refugees, battles and sieges, instead of the root causes of these conflicts, ulterior motives and interests. The four founders however, believe that it is important to know who the main actors behind the scenes are and what objectives they have, where the funding and the weapons come from and who the true victims are. Only thorough research, analysis and regular personal contact with the diaspora in Europe, local journalists and activists on the ground, can such a true image of a conflict been given. And only with this kind of information about the true causes and consequences of conflicts, can solutions be formulated and relevant action be taken. Core values The Hague Peace Projects believes and will comply in all its actions to the values of freedom, non-violence, transparency, and human rights. Structure of the organization The Hague Peace Projects is an entirely voluntary organization, with about 150 volunteers in total. The budget for projects comes from project proposals and acquisition of funds, but generally the organization functions on very low costs. We have ambitions to professionalize the organization, however, and part of that strategy is the acquisition of more funds.
Mission and Objectives

Vision
The Hague Peace Projects believes in a world where conflicts between human beings, groups of people and countries are not solved by violence and the law of the jungle, but through dialogue, respect for human rights, and honest cooperation between equals.
Mission
The mission of the Hague Peace Projects is to contribute to peaceful solutions to (armed) conflicts by bringing diaspora groups in the Netherlands from conflict areas together, to contribute to the knowledge of the root causes of conflict and its possible solutions.
By researching, analyzing and clarifying the often complex contexts and realities of (armed) conflicts, the Hague Peace Projects will provide relevant information to decision makers, assist and encourage actors on all levels to take the necessary actions that lead to conflict resolution and eventually peace.

Main Projects / Activities

Strategy
The Hague Peace Project cooperates with diaspora communities from conflict areas living in Europe, local journalists and human rights actors living and working in conflict areas. Together with them the Hague Peace Projects does research, publishes reports, does advocacy on different levels, and organizes public campaigns. We pay special attention to cultural and artistic events raising awareness among a wider public of today’s conflicts and everyone’s capacities to contribute to peace.
As of May 2017, the Hague Peace Projects has working groups on and from the following regions and topics: Great Lakes Region, Turkish-Kurdish dialogue, Somalia, Bangladesh, Syria. A Morroccan working group is in the stages of set-up.

General Information
The Petőfi Literary Museum (PLM) was founded in 1954, as the legal successor of the Petőfi House, protector of the Petőfi legacy. Today it is a national museum of literature, an exhibition and research centre with one of the biggest and most versatile literary and art collections in the country. Its headquarters and a number of branch institutions – specialised literary and theatre museums – are in Budapest, other branches in the countryside. PLM is the co-ordinator of the Association of Hungarian Literary Memorial Houses reaching over borders to neighbouring countries. PLM is a public cultural institution - with a staff of around 200 people - partly financed by the Ministry of Human Resources, partly from (project-based) funds raised through national/international funding organizations often in the framework of partnerships. The annual budget in 2015 and 2016 amounted to approx.. 1 billion HUF with 80% of this sum coming from the Ministry.
Mission and Objectives

PLM collects, preserves and exhibits cultural heritage, to enrich cultural life and to promote literature and the value of reading on an individual level and in the society to generations of audiences as a means to comprehend and be able to connect to the world around us and to understand one another and each other’s experiences better.
The PLM undertakes/aims to
- process and preserve the inherited collections under modern conditions.
- collect materials of museum value from contemporary Hungarian literature such as writers’ and poets’ legacies, correspondence, libraries, sound and video recordings, photographs, furniture, personal belongings, the documents of the editorial offices of literary periodicals etc. as a basis of conscious, scholarly-founded, ideology-free expansion of the collections.
- play an active role in scientific life both on a national and international level, to foster and support scientific research in literature and (literary) museology and support individual researchers as well as research labs or scientific institutions. We make use of the intellectual value of our collections, catalogues and databanks in critical editions, philological and textological research. Our museologists participate in university education as lecturers, and our volumes of essays and studies appear in the technical literature of cultural research and literary museology.
- present its various collections through exhibitions and online to the widest possible audience. Since its establishment, PLM has organised almost 500 exhibitions and issued more than 300 scholarly and popularising publications and exhibition catalogues.
- offer learning opportunities and well as quality cultural programmes to the widest possible audience and invigorate local (and national) cultural life. The PLM – with its branch institutions - organizes 600-700 events annually for people of all ages, professions and interests. Around 40% of the PLM’s programming is based on partnerships with a variety of institutions from university departments to foreign cultural institutes, publishers or various civil society organizations.
- promote Hungarian literature, encourage reading, support various literary initiatives through partnerships, grants, scholarships and other support programmes.
- work together with all levels of the education system and provide valuable learning experiences to students of all ages in PLM’s buildings and in classrooms.
- promote Hungarian literature internationally through the Hungarian Books and Translations Office providing grants for publishers and translators of Hungarian literary works.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

The Petőfi Literary Museum is a nationwide organization with 12.000-13.000 people visiting its headquarters and branch institutions each year. The PLM identifies with the values of the Anna Lindh Foundation, it is and has been for decades a promoter and facilitator of mutual understanding. We can bring a diverse and broad audience under the network’s umbrella as well as an active circle of educators and professionals committed to diversity and intercultural dialogue. We believe that the PLM’s cultural activities make local/Hungarian audiences more open and curious to other people’s experiences and more sensitive to issues of injustice and prejudice. We hope that our activities and efforts so far prove the PLM valuable for the Hungarian network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Being part of the Hungarian Anna Lindh Foundation network would allow us to connect with partner institutions and to find allies in working for a peaceful and culturally rich society in Hungary and hopefully would help us find new partners in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The PLM is engaged in several partnerships already and is keen on finding novel ways to collaborate in interpreting culture and heritage in the broadest possible sense and in bringing value to as many people as possible through literature and the arts.

Mission and Objectives

Mission
To contribute to the foundations of a sustainable culture of peace through education, research, advocacy and knowledge-sharing.

Goals

Advance the quality of education and learning achievements through incorporating the values, competencies and teaching practices of peace education.

Increase the likelihood that peacebuilding initiatives will be successful and sustainable by empowering children, families and teachers with the tools, values and competencies necessary for better living together.

Reduce physical, verbal and psychological violence against children and between children notably in schools.

Cultivate the respect for human rights through teaching children, families and teachers how to render non-discrimination, inclusion and freedom of expression a reality in everyday living-together.

Main Projects / Activities

1. Grandir en paix au Liban!
A full project responding to the requests of the Ministry of Education in Lebanon (MEES, CRDP), to bring about the culture of peace, through quality education methods and psychosocial practices focusing on  living together in harmony and violence transformation.
2. Child protection against school violence in Ivory Coast
A project focusing on the Tonkpi region where physical and psychological violence against children causes psychological wounds, fear, absenteeism and dropping out.
3. Integrating culture of peace education into the teacher curricula and the school curricula of Côte d'Ivoire.
This is the first of a kind whereby an NGO guides the Ministry experts for this priority goal, as there remains a high risk of political violence explosion, especially due to youth.
4. Applying the "Growing ip un peace" collection of teacher guides and student booklets in the public school of Bex, Switzerland
Bex has been ridden with violence and suffers also from the rejection of the migrants that have been installed here. This one year programme, financed by the Department of Education of the Vaud Canton and other bodies, aims to evaluate the social impact of our culture of peace programme on children's attitudes, behaviours and psychosocial competencies.
5. "Grandir ensemble" (Growing up together), an in-depth teacher guide and student booklets for developing intercultural intelligence.
This work will first serve the schools in French-speaking Switzerland, and is aimed to provide concrete experiential activities in response to the objectives of the Suisse Romande School programme for primary schools and preprimary classes (8 grades in total).
6. Guide for cu-ture of peace-developing activities for extracurricular programmes
This has been requeested by town halls of several French cities and we are starting this development now.
