Mission and Objectives

The Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe initiates and promotes activities that develop peaceful relationships between nations, social groups, and individuals. The Foundation applies social concepts developed by the World War II German resistance group, the Kreisau Circle, by advancing European mutual understanding. We intend to encourage reflection on historical matters and to contribute to the creation of a common European historical identity. Our aim is to build communities that integrate people of different world views, beliefs and political affiliations.

Main Projects / Activities

International Youth Meeting Centre leads educational events aimed at bringing together youth who speak different languages and hold different world views. The European Academy, directed at adults, offers training sessions and workshops for various professional and social groups. It organizes international conferences on political and cultural issues of modern Europe, serving to deepen Polish-German understanding and dialogue between East and West. Our third project, the Memorial Place, strives to present opposition movements in the 20th century and commemorate the moral heritage of the Kreisau Circle. We also coordinate a partnership programme between twin-cities Wroclaw and Lviv and participate in EVS projects.

The BSCC is subsidised by the Regional Government (Marshall Office of the Pomeranian Voivodship) 4 The Center’s activities focus on nearly all fields of arts. It organizes interdisciplinary projects such as scientific and literary seminars, conferences, debates, contemporary art exhibitions, theatre and dance performances, audiovisual presentations, festivals and concerts of classical, jazz, rock and folk music. The BSCC has also published a number of its own books. The BSCC organizes nearly 40 events a year, most of them include international co-operation. 5. A great number of our projects is supported by Nordic and Baltic ministries and embassies, the European Union, Polish state funding and commercial sponsors. We also co-operate with the Polish Ministry of Culture and the EFAH.
Mission and Objectives

Among the BSCC’s statutory objectives are national and international creation and promotion of Pomeranian culture as well as the presentation of the achievements of other countries, particularly from the Baltic Sea Region, in Europe and beyond.
The BSCC activities are focused on presenting the artistic and intellectual wealth of TriCity and its region to both, national and foreign audience. In order to achieve that we are trying to encourage a wider than bilateral model of the cultural exchange. Thanks to that BSCC is also able to promote artistic events created in co-operation with its international partners.
One of our main objectives is to show the potential of young artists, facilitate them the way to international projects and educate through this collaboration.

Main Projects / Activities

During numerous projects we have been working with artists from all around the world.
The BSCC is an organiser of the Festival of World Cultures “Window onto the World”. The main goal of the festival is to create a meeting spot for people of all nations and cultures, a place where they could freely exchange experiences, share thoughts and ideas. We are convinced that an honest dialogue between multicultural artists and the publicity is necessary to build a society of solidarity and understanding.
Among our biggest undertakings there is e.g. the SEAS, a cross-cultural project connecting artists and intellectuals from the Baltic and Adriatic Sea Regions. The BSCC had been involved in the SEAS platform since 2002 until the termination of the project in 2005. Overall budget included 2,4 mln EUR.
Since 2004 it operates the ARS BALTICA Secretariat (www.ars-baltica.net)

General Information
Citizens of Europe is a registered non-profit association in Germany and works from an office in Berlin (staffed with an executive officer and two volunteers). Highest bodies of the association are the council and the board. We have about 65 registered members from more than 15 countries. Citizens runs four main programmes (see below) and additional projects in 3 fields of cooperation (Beyond the Union, Volunteering, European debate). We finance our projects through support from various donors (among them European Commission, Bosch foundation, Aktion Mensch). Citizens has a wide network of partners (e.g. Hungarian Europe Society, Maison de l'Europe Paris, Kulturaktiv e.V. Dresden) based on the respective project.
Mission and Objectives

Citizens of Europe is a group of individuals who feel responsible for the future of Europe. We work together through interdisciplinary debate, practical training and engaged art. We aim to promote active citizenship. Vitalizing a European public sphere open to everyone is, for us, a matter of mental and cultural change. It requires innovative action based on mutual respect and passion.

Main Projects / Activities

“OpenFora” gather people from all over Europe at different European locations to create a lively political debate by similarly well-informed, not essentially like-minded people who are willing to get involved in the present and future of society. “MyEurope” is an annual film contest that invites active Europeans, artists and filmmakers to reflect and create their views on Europe. Selected films are shown during a Europe-wide film festival at several places across the continent. “Art Interventions” is an interdisciplinary programme convening local, national and European artists and scholars at disadvantaged communities to identify socio-economical-political processes that are taboo in the community and find, through community participation, innovative ways to deal with them. “Training for Europe” is a series of training seminars. They either combine elements of project conception with work on intercultural and team leading skills or train people in non formal methods of citizenship education in a European context.
