General Information
The Evangelical Church in Germany is the institutional form chosen by a community of 23 Lutheran, Reformed and United regional Churches. German Protestant church structures are based on federal principles at all levels. Each local congregation is responsible for Christian life in its own area, while each regional church has its own special characteristics and retains its independence. Without in any way diminishing this autonomy, the EKD carries out joint tasks with witch its members have entrusted it. The EKD has the following governing bodies, all organized and elected on democratic lines: the Synod, the Council and the Church Conference. They are responsible for fulfilling the EKD's tasks as laid down in the constitution of the EKD:

It thus unites the professional competence of business and the performing arts. Every European country is entitled to a seat on the Board of Trustees and a vote and can nominate a representative. At the moment 33 European countries are represented in the Board of Trustees. The operational activities of the European Cultural Foundation EUROPAMUSICALE are managed by a Foundation managing commitee composed of three people which administers the Foundation and acts as its legal representative. The managing commitee is advised, supported and supervised in its work by the Foundation council, which amongst other things decides how Foundation resources are to be applied. Main activities of the foundation are the European Music Festival EUROPAMUSICALE, Foundation Concerts and other cultural projects of European dimension.
Mission and Objectives

The European Cultural Foundation EUROPAMUSICALE is contributing to building the European house. As an independent, international institution, it will promote cultural exchange in Europe. To do so, it has the European Music Festival EUROPAMUSICALE as its own measure, which supports the growing together of Europe by means of culture in a special way.

Main Projects / Activities

The European Music Festival EUROPAMUSICALE has set itself the goal of creating a cultural meeting place for the people of Europe. In accordance with the festival's motto of "Get acquainted & learn respect", European cultural diversity is presented to the audiences in exemplary fashion, thus opening up a path for understanding and tolerance in Europe. As genuinely European event, EUROPAMUSICALE is not tied to any certain location. Even a presentation in non-European cultures would be possible. Basically, any country or town would be a possibility that is keen to celebrate and present Europe and the diversity of European culture.

General Information
The IKF has the legal status of a non-profit association. It is headed by its director and has about 8 employees (the number depends on project activities). Approximately 90 per cent of the budget comes from research projects which are mainly funded by ministries, provincial authorities, public foundations and by EU/EC programmes. The rest is financed by public institutions, mainly the Ministry of Science and Research. Depending on the projects' issues it cooperates with international as well as domestic partners. Since the IKF is one of the founders of the new Conflict-Peace-and Democracy Cluster (CPDC) its main partners are: the Democracy Center Vienna, the Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution - ASPR (which is an ALF-member) and the Center for Peace Research and Peace Pedagogics at the University of Klagenfurt.
Mission and Objectives

The objectives of the Institute are to conduct research into political and social conflicts at an interdisciplinary level and to generate possible solutions designed to provide advice for political decision-making. These activities are underpinned by basic research.

Main Projects / Activities

The Institute's focus encompasses the following fields:
(1) Research on democracy: research on development of democracy in liberal political (sub-) systems, research on development of democracy in the European Union. (2) Cleavages in politics and society: gender research, migration/integration research, secularisation research. (3) Security research: security and the rule of law, security and the welfare states, violence research. (4) Research on prejudice: research on anti-Semitism, xenophobia, racism and misogyny research and/or training programmes in the field of citizenship education. (5) Historical social research: women and Nazi persecution (in particular in Ravensbrück and Mauthausen), oral history and remembrance policy. Information about the research projects are available on the IKF-website www.ikf.ac.at

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Due to our experience in various research fields as well as because of our international and domestic contacts, including some of the Austrian ALF-members, we want to contribute to and foster the Austrian network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We would like to enlarge our contacts and, moreover, we think that we might be able to contribute to many potential projects because of the variety of our research fields.
