General Information
January 2007 marked the start of a new three-year integration project at parish level in the Republic of Ireland. This ecumenical project is managed by Inter Church Committee on Social Issues (ICCSI), funded by the Dept of Justice (Reception and Integration Agency) and based at the Irish School of Ecumenics in Dublin (details below).The Parish Based Integration Project promotes and supports the practical integration of immigrants based around parishes and local congregations. Many of the new immigrants have strong church links in their countries of origin and tend to seek out parishes and local church congregations as natural sources of practical support. The overall objective of the project is to boost integration activities, at local parish level and on an ecumenical basis if possible. It seeks to address the issues which may be inhibiting Irish people from fully reaching out to assist the new immigrants. The project created a central resource geared to the specific type of activities which are best undertaken at local parish/congregation level. This resource contains a wide range of support material relevant to the aims of the project. It promote models of best practice on integration issues. It also include changes in legislation, policies and practice. All these resources can be accessed on the new website at www.iccsi.ie. It is linked to those statutory and non-statutory agencies most involved in immigration, integration and working with immigrants. The project, in identifying models of good practice, is also making them known and available; visits local parish groups (as far as possible ecumenical groups), providing advice, assistance, facilitation, training and other practical support required for integration activities and promotion of inter-culturalism.
Mission and Objectives

The principal objectives of this project are:-
• Develop a deep knowledge of best practice from the existing locations which have been leading the way, and elsewhere, and develop suitable resource material.
• Use this to produce a wide range of support material relevant to the specific objectives of the project, both hosted on a website plus selected material being printing.
• Develop, or adapt, training material for local parish-based groups. Such material would cover a range of integration issues, inter-cultural understanding, anti-racism material, assistance in developing mutual understanding and trust, practical ways of assisting integration at a local level etc
• In undertaking all of these activities, the primary focus is on the local community, both indigenous and new. Integration is a two way process, and the focus is equally on both sides of that equation. Indeed if anything the emphasis will be more in relation to how the indigenous element of a community can address their fears, uncertainties, prejudices etc, and how they can mobilise local resources to stimulate an inclusive culture within their community.

Main Projects / Activities

Migrant Voters Campaign
The project through its role on the steering committee for the migrant voters campaign and in collaboration with the Vincentian Partnership for Justice was on board to devise and provide voter education to members of ethnic minority communities. After completing of a day training course, the trainers delivered a programme of voters education sessions across the city in local community centres and places of worship used by migrants. Other materials covering a wide range of integration issues, inter-cultural understanding, anti-racism issues and promotion of models of good practice was also developed and hosted on the project’s website.
Project Facilitated by the Parish Based Integration Programme
Failte Balbriggan is a primary example of successful facilitation by the Parish Integration Project and faith based groups and local statutory agencies. The project has been set up to assist the integration of new communities into Irish society in North County Dublin. In doing so, it helps provide a range of social services primarily to refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable immigrants in the North County Dublin area. It is a collaborative project between CMS Ireland, the Vincentian Refugee Centre (VRC) and the HSE.
Failte Balbriggan Project services
True integration must be a two-way process and therefore the project has been established with multi-sector involvement, including local churches, schools and community groups. The service based in Balbriggan comprises of a drop in centre with evening opening hours to be a base for the provision of the following services:
• Dedicated point of contact and introduction point to a range of local statutory and voluntary organisations including: Co-operation Fingal, Community Welfare Officers, Public Health Nurses, Schools, FAS, GAA Clubs, Soccer Clubs, Accommodation Advice.
• Educational advice and referral
• Employment seeking assistance, advice and referrals
• Homework club including a local one to one mentoring programme to encourage integration
• Provision of space for groups to meet and interact
• Men and women’s support groups
Summary
The integration of immigrants has a strong local dimension. Whilst immigration applications are likely to be dealt with at the national level, migrants ultimately settle in local communities, and require support from local stakeholders to ease the process of integration. Failte Balbriggan is a ground breaking ecumenical initiative that provides a channel for a range of religious, statutory and non-governmental organizations to respond in a holistic manner to the new needs of modern Ireland.

General Information
Salma Dance Academy is a non-for-profit cultural institute based in Haifa serving the Palestinian-Arab community in Israel. Founded in 1979 by Ferial Khsheibon, who currently serves as Salma's Artistic Director, the Academy produces innovative performances at a professional level, while also training young students in dance technique through classes open to the public in a range of levels and genres. The Palestinian community is in dire need of outlets for artistic expression, and Salma serves to nurture creativity in young students, while encouraging them to engage with their culture and dream big about their future. Our annual budget is approximately NIS 1,000,000 (approximately 200,000 EUR). Current sources of funding include the Israeli Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Haifa, and self-generated income from ticket sales and student fees. The staff includes an artistic director and office manager. The Board meets regularly to give input on performances and artistic direction.
Mission and Objectives

Mission: Salma Dance Academy seeks to contribute towards the development of the Palestinian community through the arts. We provide access to high-quality dance classes and performances, cultivate personal skills and confidence, as well as communal pride, through dance education and performance.
Objectives:
1. Foster appreciation for the art of dance performance within our community, while nurturing technique and talent through dance education at high professional standards;
2. Promote the empowerment and well-being of our community through dance by encouraging the use of dance as a medium for self-expression, identity, creativity and cultural exchange;
3. Present and promote our cultural heritage through high-level dance performances that revive traditional dance styles alongside contemporary genres.

Main Projects / Activities

Salma Dance Academy offers classes in classical and modern ballet, hip-hop, jazz, ballroom, flamenco, traditional folklore and theater to dancers aged four and up. In 2012-2013, nearly 300 students were enrolled in the dance school, including over 200 children 6-16, and 50 senior dancers who are members of the Academy's professional level performance ensemble.
Salma has created a number of full-length dance productions with original scores and Arabic scripts. Productions resurrect classical forms of Palestinian-Arabic dance and music, increasing familiarity with these unique art forms, and restoring pride within the community. Productions often deal with difficult social issues, serving as an outlet for communal support and understanding.
After many years of renting studios, in 2010 the Academy decided to invest in the future of dance in the Palestinian-Arab community, embarking upon a full-scale renovation of a new studio space in Haifa. We hope this studio will serve as the home of dance in the Palestinian community for years to come.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

As the biggest and oldest organization promoting dance within the Palestinian community in Israel, we have much experience to share with potential partners doing similar work in other Mediterranean countries, especially minority cultural organizations, as well as other similar cultural and dance organizations operating within other communities in Israel. We welcome the possibility of building partnerships with cultural organizations across the region. We are especially interested in expanding our programming to serve and accommodate the most marginalized children in our community, who cannot afford to study dance without institutional support, and we are eager to learn from the experience of network members on building successful projects such as these. In addition, we see the medium of dance, and the arts overall, as a tool with great potential for allowing cultural exchange, deepened inter-group understanding, and coexistence. We would like to engage partners from the network in building joint projects which would take advantage of these powerful aspects of the arts.

General Information
"Ani Israeli" (in Hebrew: "I am Israeli") is a registered non-profit association. Headed by its elected board and chair-person (currently Prof. Uzzi Ornan), the Association has no paid employees: all the necessary work for its ongoing activities (approx. 30 hours per week) is done voluntarily by the board members. Its funding sources (about 11,000 NIS p.a. in average) are member-fees and donations by private persons. The association collects signatures for its petition to the Israeli government, organises seminars and public lectures and coordinates the writing of articles and op-eds to leading Israeli newspapers and websites.
Mission and Objectives

The "Ani Israeli" association was started with a very specific goal: to campaign against the unequal, discriminating definitions of the Israeli National Populace Registration, and for allowing all Israeli citizens who want it to be registered as Israelis.

Main Projects / Activities

* conferences and public panels, discussing the issues of nationality and citizenship;
* meetings for the bringing together of youth from various Israeli social "sectors";
* online publication of reviews and articles.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Our main contributions could be:
* the exchange of knowledge, especially regarding constitutional law, civil and human rights;
* the organisation of joint conferences and publications, together with other associations.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

In a manner which is peculiar to Israel, the Israeli State Registrar registers every Israeli citizen according to a so called "Nationality" definition. This definition in fact expresses the person's ethnic and/or religious affiliation. It is marked (partly camouflaged) in the identity cards that every Israeli citizen is obliged by law to carry around at any time in order to make it possible to every official of the sovereign to instantly identify his or her ethnic or religious affiliation. It is accessible to every government official.We consider this discrimination a pivotal Israeli problem and a major block for peace and co-existence in the region. Therefore, we would like to join forces with other like-minded organisations, in the campaign towards its abolition.

General Information
Reut-Sderot Association sponsors and runs educational, social and leadership programs for the economically disadvantaged and undereducated sectors of Sderot. We provide opportunities for disadvantaged teens and underprivileged families to expand employable skills, gain economic independence and develop leadership skills.
Mission and Objectives

Reut-Sderot was established to aid and empower families and underprivileged populations, in particular at risk children. Our organization was selected by the Sderot Municipality welfare department to address a multiple range of social and educational lacunae, and our ultimate goal is strengthening community ties, and imparting leadership skills to youth and families of Sderot.

Main Projects / Activities

: (1) Two daycare centers for children aged 3 months to three years, and seven kindergartens for children aged three to six. These facilities emphasize the children's emotional, intellectual and physical development and offer a supervised curriculum of therapies and services by a professional and experienced staff. (2) four after-school therapeutic centers which provide comprehensive services to underprivileged children from the Sderot area in first through seventh grades, five days a week, between 1pm and 7pm, ten months a year. The centers also provide full day intersession activities for the weeks when school is closed. The staff members help children gain the social and educational tools necessary to grow and learn, while remaining comfortable and cared for in a secure environment. The staff of the centers offers homework assistance, nutritious meals and snacks, group and individual activities and sports, quiet focused individual attention in a consistently supportive venue. (3) Stricken neighborhoods: Many of Reut-Sderot young families have settled in Sderot specifically to live in underprivileged neighborhoods. These new families endeavor to introduce concepts of community involvement and civic responsibility to longtime local populations. Projects are geared towards neighborhood renewal, improved educational institutions, services to local senior citizens, and various cultural activities. Two successful examples are the "Nave Eshkol" and the "Nir Am" neighborhoods of Sderot, each of which absorbed a core group of new families who strive – together with the local community of residents -- to eradicate unemployment, violence, petty and serious crime, substance abuse, vandalism and other symptoms of economic and cultural poverty.
