General Information

The Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development is a Lebanese Non- Governmental Organization that was established in 1979 by HE Premier Rafik Hariri. In its early days of inception, the foundation focused primarily on the educational sector, reaching out and providing financial support for nearly 34,000 students; thus, rendering investing in people synonymous with investing in Lebanon’s future. Whilst such a focus constituted a direct response to the needs of the war-afflicted population, the foundation has since expanded its scope of coverage, shifting towards a more diversified portfolio of interventions aimed at attaining a sustainable state of human development. To-date, the foundation has  implemented over 450 projects that are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in partnership with more than 110 local, regional and international partners. The foundation currently works across eight fields of intervention, including Education & Information Technology, Civic Engagement & Good Governance, Cultural Heritage & Tourism, Women Empowerment, Agriculture, Environment, Crisis Management & Relief Services and Urban Development. Working within a Public-Private-Civil Society partnership framework, the foundation believes in the correlation between adopting a participatory approach to development and the sustainability of initiatives undertaken, as such a methodology is best suited for aggregating, reconciling and creating synergies amongst various interventions that tackle the challenges imposed by the rising trend of urbanization.

In addition to the organization members, Visual Voices has established a network of 41 collaborating organizations in Europe, Asia, SE Asia and the greater MENA region.  In the first year of operations, Visual Voices has not had budgetary resources available.  Funding is sought from international institutions (UN, EU, USAID, etc.), national funding from the government of Cyprus, private foundations and small grants programs.  Visual Voices is currently implementing three projects in Cyprus 1) a Visual Voices initiative funded by Civic Space (funded by EU) 2) local implementation of Plural+ Film Contest screenings in partnership with UNAOC and UN Migration (IOM), and 3) collaboration with PeacePlayers Cyprus on arts-based programs (funded by EU and British High Commission in Cyprus).

Mission and Objectives

The Visual Voices mission is to enable youth artists from communities affected by violent conflict to artistically advocate for peace both within their own communities and internationally. In doing so, we aim to challenge conflict narratives and help strengthen peace narratives. To materialize this mission we have been developing our own network of collaborating organizations and professional artists around the world. Our main objectives include building the capacity of local youth for positive civic participation through artistic expression, introducing youth voices that embrace a culture of peace into the peacebuilding discourse and contributing to positive peace in communities affected by violent conflict.

Main Projects / Activities

Visual Voices is a newly established organization that is developing projects in Cyprus and internationally in collaboration with partner organizations. Activities include research, art residencies, peace education workshops and campaigning. Our methodology focuses on integrating peace education into artist residencies for youth artists from communities affected by violent conflict. The pilot project is currently taking place in Nicosia, Cyprus.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Visual Voices is motivated to contribute to the Cyprus network in many ways. We are committed to attending and supporting network events, helping organize events, partner with other international networks and collaborate with local organizations on projects.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Visual Voices would be proud to join the ALF Network because we share many of the same ideals and value the role of civil society organizations in positive social change. We are an organization that recognizes the importance for dialogue and the inclusion of youth voices, which are both key elements of our organizational mission. We also believe that transnational civil society connections are crucial to making positive social change through enhanced understanding and cooperation. We recognize that being part of the ALF network will allow us to connect with, learn from and share with other organizations both in Cyprus and internationally. We are very interested in expanding our network and finding common ground with other organizations for future opportunities to collaborate.

General Information
Association “Give Us a Chance” is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded by the parents of the children and people with disabilities out of necessity to work united in creating better social conditions for the more comfortable life of their families and children. Our association is the first of its kind in B&H – it unites families of children and persons with disabilities, regardless of age, level or type of disability. Association was registered on March 24, 2011, as a product of recognition of the common problem – securing a place in the society for the families of children/persons with disabilities, worthy of human dignity and guaranteed by human rights. The association employs 15 people. Sources of funding are grants from local, and federal agencies, and private donations like: • USAID (2018-20120) - 125,178 BAM (63,000 euros) • Diplomatic bazaar - 20,000 BAM (10,000 euros) • Grants (local and federal) -  80,000 BAM (40,000 euros) • Private sector donation - 20,000 BAM (10,000 euros) The main long-term project (from 2014 to present) is Service Centers “Give us a chance” in Sarajevo that supports families of children and persons with disabilities. Association “Give us a chance” transfers the “Service Center model” through training for NGOs across Bosnia and Herzegovina. So far, following our model, service centers have been opened in Republika Srpska (Banja Luka and Foca) and the Federation of BiH (Tuzla and Zenica).  We also offer educational training and lectures for stakeholders (government representatives, students, teaching staff, NGOs, local community, media) on issues that families of children and people with disabilities are facing in BiH. We are also engaged in advocacy work, finding possible solutions. We are creating initiatives to amend the legislation that's affecting this population. Cooperation has been achieved with numerous partners, most significantly with USAID, Novi Grad municipality, Stari Grad Municipality, Sarajevo City; Ministry for Education, Science, and Youth of Sarajevo Canton; Ministry for Work, Social Politics, Depopulated People and Refugees of Sarajevo Canton; Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton, schools (all levels), health institutions, NGOs.
Mission and Objectives

Vision: An Empowered Society that recognizes the needs of families of children and adults with developmental difficulties and solves them systematically, respecting their dignity, diversity, and opportunities.
Mission: "Give Us a Chance" is a non-profit organization operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Using innovative models, through direct work, we provide support to families and children/adults with disabilities regardless of the type and degree of disability. We influence the community's awareness of educational and inclusive activities, and we also influence the changes, additions, and implementation of relevant laws.
Goals:
• To continue providing free support to families of children and people with disabilities through service centers
• Expand the model of the service center to as many municipalities in BiH
• Promote the need for service and day centers, as well as amending the laws related to the same
• Become a reference center, for families of children and people with developmental difficulties and profession

Main Projects / Activities

Problems that families with children/persons with disabilities deal with on a daily basis led us to start with concrete support, by the project – Service center “Give Us a Chance”. Services that our professional staff and volunteers provide at Association Service center “Give Us a Chance” are available to all families residing in Sarajevo Canton that have a family member with disabilities – regardless of medical diagnosis, age, and level of disability. Services are free of charge.
The first service center was opened on May 28, 2014, with support of USAID and Novi Grad Municipality. The center officially started working on June 2 of the same year in Alipašino polje, Novi Grad Municipality. In December of 2017, the Service center “Give Us a Chance 2” was opened in Stari Grad Municipality, Sarajevo, at “Obala Kulina Bana 28”.
What makes us different from other NGOs are:
- free service for all users
- we do not discriminate on age, type, and degree of difficulty
- our existence is long-term - we are not a one-off project, we are here to stay
- we are not only focused on children/persons with disabilities - we support the entire family, which is the only way to give the right support effect. Only a strong parent, a strong family as a unit, mentally and physically, can be able to provide his or her child with the disadvantages of whatever is necessary for a long time.
- at the Sarajevo Canton level, we are the only organization that provides a full set of these specific types of services
The Service Center hires relevant experts such as OT therapists, psychologists, lawyer, nurses. We also educate volunteers of related professions and auxiliary staff.
Main services
• Psychological support
• Short break service
• All-day-stay service
• Developmental assessment of children in case of possible disability
• Mobile team – support at family’s home address
• Mobile team – transport service by specially adapted van
• Information and legal support

• Help with finding teaching assistant

General Information
The artistic pedagogic youth organisation “Sxedia stin poli” was founded in 1999 as an informal group and since 2007 it has the legal form of a non-profit, non-governmental organisation. It has a 5-member steering board, 2 staff members and a pool of around 50 volunteers. They are educators, artists, social scientists, animators etc. with a strong commitment in communication and social awareness through arts. Our organisation has an average annual budget of 22,000€, from private donations by individuals (members and friends), workshop and seminar fees and mainly project financing by public or other non-profit institutions. Our activities include regular creativity workshops for children, educational projects for social awareness in schools, open events for young people in the city with our partner organisations (NGOs for Roma youth, refugees, children who lack parental care etc.), adult education and international youth exchanges on youth topics with our international partners with similar objectives.
Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to raise awareness of children and young people on various social issues through cultural and educational activities, to run voluntary activities in support of children with fewer opportunities, to train volunteers on sustainable learning, to promote volunteerism and solidarity, empower creative youth participation and foster cooperation of NGOs and young people.
Accordingly our objectives are children and youth, forward-thinking education, human rights, social awareness and solidarity and volunteerinsm.

Main Projects / Activities

“Schedia stin poli” runs projects for children with fewer opportunities (children with immigrant, refugee, Roma or vulnerable socio-economic background), such as the weekly  “Children’s Hangout”, in cooperation with the Greek Council for Refugees, SOS Children’s Villages at al., or workshops at public Primary Schools on children rights, diversity and discrimination. The organization has implemented projects such as Roma social circus and anti-racism week workshops at schools, as part of Thessaloniki European Youth Capital 2014, while in 2016-2018 it held activities for refugee children and youngsters in cooperation with INTERSOS Hellas and UNHCR. Moreover, street art activities, as well as other social and cultural events are carried out by “Schedia stin poli”, alone or jointly with other NGOs of Thessaloniki, active in the local network. Apart from the local level, the organisation has national, European and international partners, mainly in Erasmus+ funded projects, such as a KA3 3-year project on drama in education, currently implemented, as well as numerous youth exchanges and training courses.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are eager to join the meetings and share our rich and long experience on our objectives. We are particularly active and well connected at the local level and we want to multiply the effects inside a wide and well-structured network. We believe that our insight working with the community and our activities in Thessaloniki, Greece and beyond can be a useful material for the network. Of course our aspiration is to become an active member of the network and make it function to the mutual benefit of all members.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We strongly believe in the power of networks and the mutual interest of its members it cultivates. The networks, especially of the kind and scale of Anna Lindh constitute multipiers of the effectiveness and the capacity of its members, given they are active and committed. Our primary goal in joining ALF Network is networking: we want to meet more organisations from the focus area, create new partnerships and find new project opportunities, since all of our greatest activities have been in partnership with other NGOs. This is how we can empower a big number of youngsters, influence policy makers and ultimately make a change in our societies.
