General Information

What, How & for Whom' (WHW) is a non-profit organization for visual culture and curators’ collective formed in 1999 (legally established in 2001) and based in Zagreb, Croatia. Since May 2003 WHW has been directing the program of Gallery Nova - non-profit, city owned gallery in Zagreb. Currently, members of WHW curatorial collective Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić and Sabina Sabolović are curators of Istanbul Biennial (to open in September 2009). WHW has three full-time employees and its annual budget is cca 110.000 Euro. The main sources of funding include: Ministry of Culture of Croatia, City of Zagreb, National Foundation for Development of Civil Society, European Cultural Foundation, European Union. Occasionally programs are funded by various foundations and cultural institutes such as American Center Foundation, British Council, Goethe Institute, etc. Main organizational partners include: Istanbul Foundation for Culture and the Arts, Istanbul; Anadolu Kultur, Istanbul; multimedia institute mi2, Zagreb; Center for Dramatic Arts, Zagreb, kuda.org, Novi Sad; Prelom Colective, Belgrade, Tranzit.hu, Budapest; proba, Sarajevo.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of WHW is to open up discussions on relevant social issues through art, theory and media, through supporting contemporary art production, organizing exhibitions and art projects, and developing models and strategies for collaboration and exchange of knowledge among organizations from different cultural fields. The goals of What, How & for Whom/WHW are promoting and supporting contemporary art production, fostering and protecting freedom of artistic expression in Croatia, fostering international collaboration in the field of contemporary art and theory, increasing public knowledge on contemporary art and theory, creating strong links among artists and cultural practitioners in Croatia, as well as on the regional and on wider international level.

Main Projects / Activities

Besides exhibitions, WHW projects encompass lectures and public discussions conducted by international artists, curators and cultural theoreticians, publications and a book edition on contemporary cultural practice and cultural theory, radio broadcasts and interventions, screenings and live acts. The main WHW activities are: curating exhibitions in Croatia and abroad; supporting production of new art works; running non-commercial gallery space in Zagreb – Gallery Nova; publishing books on contemporary art theory and practice; organizing public lectures and discussions on contemporary art theory and practice; developing links between Croatian and international visual arts scenes; developing multidisciplinary projects with Croatian organizations from dance, architecture, media and education, aimed at influencing cultural policies.

General Information
The DIRES at the University of Florence promotes and co-ordinates teaching and research in the fields of restoration and preservation of architectural cultural assets. Director : Prof. Carlo Alberto Garzonio. The STRUCTURE is composed of: 12 professors (architects, geologist) 9 researchers (architects, chemist, geologist) 2 laboratory technicians 3 administrative technicians LABORATORIES - PHOTOGRAPHIC LABORATORY -LAM (Laboratory of Analysis of Materials) -LAMU (Multi media laboratory) -LIPTAC (Cultural heritage and environmental preservation laboratory). The 2008 budgetary resources was € 1.285.890,49 EU University, CNR, UNESCO, Italian Ministry of cultur and many other public and private partners.
Mission and Objectives

a) Promote, support co-ordinate and carry out theoretical and applied research in the area of cultural assets. This may include co-operation between universities, research institutes, national and local administrative bodies and industry;
b) Encourage and help organize post-graduate teaching programmes, in particular Doctorate and Masters courses;
c) Promote the exchange of information, documentation and material between teachers and researchers in the relevant fields within the frame-work of the above-mentioned co-operation;
d) Encourage the spread of scientific information and
inter-disciplinary co-operation in areas relevant to the Centre’s activities;
e) Promote national and international conventions specifically designed to further the Dires’s goals;
f) Provide and co-ordinate advisory services to individuals and institutions not connected to universities.

Teaching activities for PH degree and for masters and specializations courses in Resoration of cultural heritage. Mare Nostrum: Euromed project; Bilateral projects on cultural heritage; National project on cultural heritage.

Vlabra'CCent is an umbrella organisation of 45 cultural and community centres in the province of Flemish Brabant.
Mission and Objectives

The mission of Vlabra'ccent is to support the work of the 45 cultural centres and to make them work together.
The aim is not to compete each other, but to inform each other, to communicate and to work together.

General Information
Within the Management department of the UA the Cultural Management Group foresees in a master and postgraduate program. In addition, it establishes a research track. The Cultural Management Group consists of a coordinator and two assistants. There is a fixed team of 10 professors involved that foresees in specialist training courses into the diverse functional management dimensions and other classes such as cultural policy and art & law. In addition, a series of guest lectures by experienced and/or innovative cultural actors is being organized. Our main partner is the Foundation for Cultural Management R. Bilsen, with whom a yearly seminar on an actual topic in the broad field is being organized. The staff and regular activities are being financed through the generic academic budgets; for special projects such as research activities extra funding (by e.g. Flemish scientific foundations and private or public constituents) is being attracted.
Mission and Objectives

Within the Management department of the University of Antwerp the Cultural Management Group wishes to establish a contemporary and specialist education for those already working and those willing to work in the broad cultural and creative field. Hereby it aims at stimulating the professionalization of the cultural and creative sectors in Flanders, Belgium and abroad, this in order to optimize the cultural offer and climate. Therefore, it develops different learning activities, such as a master program, a postgraduate program, seminars and guest lectures. By integrating a practical component (training period) in its master program and by involving many cultural workers and policy makers in its activities, the Cultural Management Group wishes to increase the access to the field of action, relevant interaction and vivid debate.

Main Projects / Activities

Within the Management department of the University of Antwerp the Cultural Management Group foresees in a master and postgraduate education. These consist of specialist training courses into the diverse functional management dimensions (strategic, financial, marketing, HRM) and other classes such as cultural policy, art & law, cultural entrepreneurship & the creative industries and international cultural policy. Every year a series of guest lectures by experienced and/or innovative cultural actors and a seminar is being organized. In addition, it establishes a research track, on different topics related to the management, marketing and financing of cultural organizations, on (governmental) policy and tendencies within the cultural and creative fields such as internationalization. At the moment plans for the organization of a summer school and an international network are being elaborated.

General Information

At present 2 full-time employees work at the NGOs Center: Executive Director and Program Coordinator. The NGOs Center in Razgrad has expanded the interaction between the public institutions and the civil sector. The organization has developed a successful public- private partnership with the Regional and District Courts, Regional Prosecutor and the local police in Razgrad. This encouraged the team to keep up fostering the positive reform in the Judiciary at a local level and affirming the principles of transparency and accountability of the judicial system at national level. The available office (80 sq.m.), located in the center of Razgrad, which is additional advantage for the project implementation. Enough space with controlled electronic and human access will be available for the project team. The office has: meeting room; 4 PC, laptop, printer, copy machine, direct phones; direct internet access; multi media; a secretary. These available resources make us confident that we could provide quality management support and expert assistance to the financial organization. We are founder of National Court Watch Network in Bulgaria (June 2007). Since Aug 2006 the NGOs Centre is a member of the National Civic Coalition for Monitoring of EU funds in Bulgaria. Since February 2005 the organization is an active member of the Social Services Network and founder of the Association of Social Enterprises in Bulgaria. In March 2004 the Organization was a co-founder of the Community Policing Network in Bulgaria. In May 2004, the NGOs Center represented Bulgaria in the process of building the Minority Policing Regional Network in Romania. The NGOs Centre Razgrad works in close partnership with the local courts in North-East Bulgaria and closely monitors the regional implications of the National Reform in the Judiciary

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the NGOs Center is to advocate for civic participation in the democratization process at local level. The organization strongly supports the overall development of a civil society in Razgrad Region.

Main Projects / Activities

Community Policing; A sequence of 6 one-year projects focused on developing community policing were implemented by the organization. Trainings on the National Strategy “Police Close to Society” were provided. A Police Support Group was established in Razgrad as a result of the long and successful collaboration between the NGOs Centre and the Regional police headquarters. Social inclusion and human rights: At present the NGOs Center in Razgrad implements a number of local and regional projects “Roma community consultants”, “Equal Opportunities for Job Placement at the Police for Representatives of Ethnic Minorities”, “Daily Center for Socially Disadvantaged Women”. The development of the NGOs Center as a social services provider is a priority for 2006 and 2007. The organization provides support to vulnerable groups, especially social and health-care support to women from ethnic minority groups. In 2005-2009 the organization filed over 100 cases based on the Access to Information Act before the Regional and court of Razgrad and Supreme Administrative Court, against the local authorities. In over 70 % of the cases the court pronounced the denied access to information as illegal. Apart of the abovementioned projects the NGOs Center has completed a number of other democracy-related projects. YOUTH FORUM 2001 is a non-profit legal entity. The Association was registered on December 10, 1998, and re-registered on June 21, 2001. The main document of our organization is the Statute. The General Assembly is the high priority authority in our organization. It elects the Managing Board and Board of Trustees. The Assembly consists of 17 people, which elects the five members of the Managing Board and three members of the Board of Trustees. Their mandate is for 3 years. Members of the board can’t be relatives. The Managing Board is responsible for the policy and fundraising. The Board of Trustees monitors the finances and the policy. We have a youth section that has its own managing structures (Youth Council – 5 members). 32 Volunteers are members of this youth section. The Youth Council prepares an internal self-evaluation at least 3 times a year. The criteria of the personal contribution to the organization are a part of the Rules and Regulations in the Youth Section. The youth worker is responsible for the work of the youth section. We are cooperating with the Association of the Youth Organizations - Razgrad, NGOs Center – Razgrad, Women Support Center in the Village of Strazhets, District Court, Regional Court, Regional inspectorate of the Ministry of Education and Science, Regional Police Department, Social Assistance Directorate.

OUR MISSION as a structured youth forum is to improve the social role of young people in Razgrad.
OUR VISION is to achieve equality for all social and ethnic groups by providing young people with opportunities for participating actively according to their interests in a motivating and positive atmosphere.
OUR GOAL is to ensure advocacy and realization of human rights and to promote tolerance, understanding, and opportunities of building the capacity of the civic sector through trainings and exchange of ideas and information.

“Youth forum 2001” is an ambitious organization which enables you to have your own personality, different from others. “Youth forum 2001” will help you to realize your ambitions and meet key figures.
Our organization is a voluntary association of young people with a positive purpose. We are very enthusiastic and ambitious young people, united by the idea of positive and continuous development of our generation. We wish to socialize with the surrounding world and to actively take part in the social processes.
Foreign Aid Ratings assigns BB rating to Youth Forum 2001 (November 2003), a community-based youth organization building social capital. The Department organises seminars, workshops, conferences and a Summer School on Comparative Law, with a special focus on the themes of Multiculturalism and Languages and Law. In the organization of its activities, the Department works with other university bodies and also with private partners, depending on the field of the research. In 2005 prof. Alessandro Ferrari joined the Department. His activities have been and are concentrated on the topic of Law and Religion, with particular focus on the relationships between Islamic and European Law. Scholars on both sides of the Mediterranean are involved in this research.

Main Projects / Activities

The main research project addresses state and religion in the context of Mediterranean Islamic Countries (i.e., Algeria; Egypt; Jordan; Libya; Morocco; Palestine, Syria, Turkey and Tunisia) and it is the first step of a wider project aiming to:
1) collect and catalogue the laws of “Islamic countries” (i.e., the countries with a Muslim majority) devoted to regulating religious affairs;
2) provide a documented and structured analysis of the relationship between Religion and State in contemporary “Muslim countries”, which will be divided in four geo-political areas: Islam in Mediterranean Countries; Islam in Gulf States; Islam in Africa; and Islam in South and Southeast Asia.
3) build a network of researchers from “Muslim countries” specialised in Law and Religion and able to cooperate with other networks in the same field (e. g.: the International Consortium for Law and Religion Studies ).

General Information
Circolo Festambiente is a branch of Legambiente, the most widespread environmental organization in Italy. It is born in 1992 and counts 27 employed, 168 volunteers and 155 members. In 2007 our profit and loss account was (profit Euros 1.836.510,14 - loss Euros 1.706.960,60). Sources of funding: Eu funding, local, regional and national private donors (sponsoring); local, regional and national funds from public bodies (projects). Modalities of action: projects on sustainable education, cultural exchanges among countries, seminars and public meetings, organization of an annual festival (on culture and environment), Festambiente(XXI edition in 2009). The awareness raising and monitoring national campaigns are among the most important activities of the organization: they combine scientific analysis on environmental quality with public awareness and mobilization for the protection of the environment. Main partners: no profit organizations (national and from Mediterranean and EU countries), schools, public and private bodies.
Mission and Objectives

'Think Globally, Act Locally': we try to make people understand that it is by making local concrete changes that we can create a better environment for everyone on a global scale;
Scientific Environmentalism: our initiatives for the safeguard of the environment are carried out on the basis of accurate scientific data. Every time there is a lack of agreement with some political choice that may be environmentally hazardous, we suggest a feasible and practical alternative;
Priority-attention is given to the problems connected with environment and urban degradation and to the link between economy and environment;
Environmental Education: Attention is constantly paid to raising the awareness of the public on the importance of environmental issues and respect of nature. Moreover we support the right to be informed on issues concerning people’s health (food, air and water pollution, etc.).

Main Projects / Activities

Festambiente: an ecological kermesse with BIO-Restaurants and BIO-Bars with organic products. The ecological festival is composed of various areas where you can find cinema (environmental art movies), theatre, workshops, institutional and commercial stands, an Eko-market with organic and natural products, a new age area (with yoga, rebirthing, shiatsu), ateliers for kids, kids’ garden with recycled plastic furniture, ateliers for adults. Every night relevant political events take place in the debate area. Italian Ministers, politicians, representatives of NGOs, show men and women and the most important communication media (Rai, Mediaset, Ansa…) participate in these political debates after which the festival schedule continues with concerts of well known Italian singers which attract many young people and families - Legambiente Solidarietà: this campaign and branch of Legambiente aims at helping the people facing humanitarian crisis after environmental disasters took place (chemical, nuclear or natural disasters such as downpours, floods, etc.) - Campaign against traffic pollution and to promote sustainables cities: "Cento Strade per Giocare": it is a day - usually a Sunday in springtime - when boys, girls and children can freely play in the streets without worrying about traffic, cars and pollution. - Campaign Clean up the World - Campaign Clean-Up the Med Sea Action: a three-day-cleaning up of our beaches in all the Mediterranean Basin: more than 40 countries involved, more than 850 organizations among which municipalities, ecologically sensitive hotel chains, schools and universities. It is organized and coordinated by Legambiente, Grosseto. - Our international projects: o Chernobyl project (project to support the population and children of Bielorussia); o Habana Ecopolis (project of urban qualification of the town of Habana-Cuba); o project Merp (project of sustainable development in the area of Duzce- Turkey); o Water: a right for all; o Mediterranean Diversity (network of Mediterranean Festival); o European Environmental Network (EEN); o Every Day Ecology (communication’s campaign for the citizen about ecologic behaviors); o The Mediterranean: a sea which connects, a sea which must live (Interreg III A project with Tuscany Sardinia and Corsica for the safeguard and the promotion of the marine and coastal ecosystem); o Green Network Campaign : social citizenship related to ecological issue (European Green Party); o International Festival Network with Earth Festival (Greece), Festiventu (France), Posidonia Festival (Balearic Islands), Earth Festival (Cipro), La mer en fete (France).

Open Media Group is a non-for-profit non-government organization. The Management bodies of Open Media Group are the Assembly and the Management Board. The Assembly is the highest managing body of the Association, and is made of all the regular members of the Association. The Management Board is the executive body. The Chairman of the Management Board represents the Association and is liable for legality of its activities. O.M.G. has 23 members, 3 of which make the Management Board. O.M.G. has 3 employees. O.M.G. has created, developed and realized 6 documentary films in co-operation with various partners. We have also created and implemented numerous media campaigns aimed at raising awareness on different topics of civil society, mainly prevention of and combating violence against women and trafficking of human beings. Our media campaigns are financed by European Commission, UNHCR, UNDP, Embassies of Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Government of Croatia Offices for Human Rights and Gender Equality, Ministry of Family, Veterans’ Affairs and Intergenerational solidarity, National Foundation for Civil Society Development, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Science, Education and Sports. In the year 2009 OMG is receiving institutional support from National Foundation for Civil Society Development.

Mission and Objectives

VISION: Creation of society of equal opportunities for all citizens, in which sensitized citizens make informed decisions and are conscious about their responsibility for society in whole. O.M.G. has been founded with the aims of promotion of civil society and protection of human rights, especially rights of the young by compiling modern technologies with arts, especially film art; raising awareness of the young and promoting the values of the society of equal opportunities for all citizens, and especially promoting gender equality. O.M.G. gathers young people that decided to employ their knowledge and experience in promotion of human rights and value of democracy. Our experience includes media production, organization, media campaign design, and knowledge on media effects and impact, which is all very important for quality promotion. We have a big network of contacts in media production and broadcasting, for every project we engage experts based on the project needs. In this way we are ensuring that the topic is covered thoroughly and with quality.

Main Projects / Activities

One of the documentaries we produced is “Facing the Day” directed by Ivona Juka, thatspeaks about prisoners in Penitentiary Lepoglava, one of the strictest penitentiaries in Croatia, and re-examines the manners of resocialisation in Croatian prisons. Film was screened at numerous international festivals and received many awards including: Best Documentary Film at goEast Film Festival (Wiesbaden, Germany) ; 3 awards at Croatian Film Days – Grand Prix for the best Croatian film, “Oktavijan” award for the Best Documentary Film awarded by the Croatian Film Critic Society and Best Editing award; in Sarajevo Film Festival it was awarded Heart of Sarajevo for the Best Documentary. Film participated in International Documentary Festival DokMa in Maribor where it won Best European Documentary Award. Film was also screened at prestigious film festivals in Montreal, Ljubljana, Sofia, Motovun, Calcutta, Sao Paolo and Author Film Festival in Belgrade. Film has cinema distribution in Croatian Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and has recommendations by Education and Teacher Training Agency, Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, Government Office for Human Rights and prof. Dr. Ksenija Turković, the Chair of Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb, as well as the support of Government Office for Combating Narcotic Drug Abuse. The film was screened to university students and to pupils of high schools and of 7th and 8th grade of elementary school: 74 screenings were held in 63 towns, and film was seen by 9.573 students and pupils of elementary and high schools. In years 2007 and 2008 we implemented Awareness Raising Campaign for Prevention of Gender Based Violence co-financed by European Commission, Ministry of Education Science and Sports, CARE International, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Royal Norwegian Embassy, Embassy of Finland, Ministry of Family, Veterans’ Affairs and Intergenerational Solidarity. Open Media Group created, developed and implemented the media campaign as part of the project. The slogan of the campaign is “Silence is not Gold” and the TV clips were broadcasted on Croatian Television and RTL Croatia, which provided free media time, with value of broadcasting time over 17.000.000,00 HRK (approx. 2,3 mil. EUR).

General Information
1. CERAI compte 29 salariés entre l'Espagne et l'Etranger, 123 collaborateurs volontaires 376 adhérents. Son siège principal se trouve à mais il a aussi des sièges régionaux à Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Zaragoza, Cuenca, Mallorca et Murcia. Ces délégations s'organisent selon un système fédéral avec un Conseil d'Administration au niveau de l'état et des Conseils régionaux, tous élus par les adhérenst. Les activités du CERAI se divisent en 6 départements: administration, coopération international, sensibilisation, communication, formation et relations internationales et institutionnelles. 2. Estmation 2008: 3.570.974,16 euros 2007: 1.913.967,41 euros 2006: 1.792.561,05 euros 3. En 2008 Apportation des adhérents: 0,15% Secteur public (agences de coopération, mairies, organisations internationales, ...): 93,16% Secteur privé: 6,66% 4. La plus grande partie de l'activité de CERAI se fait via les projets de coopérations internationale, cependant,nous organisons aussi des forums, des cycles de conférences, des séjours solidaires, des cours et des rencontres. 5. Dans la majorité des cas, les partenaires du CERAI sont des associations locales (surtout quand il s'agit d'activités à l'étranger). Dans d'autres cas, il peut s'agir d'institutions officielles telles que les ministères.
Mission and Objectives

Nous sommes, comme il a été défini lors de l'Assemblée Génerale des Adhérents, une «organisation qui fait partie et prétend être un point de référence du mouvement social qui cherche à gtransformer le monde rural et agraire depuis une perspective de développement durable, de solidarité, de respect des Droits de l'Homme et de la démocratie participative».
Nos objectifs:
o L'analyse et la réflexion sur la problématique rurale, environnementale et agroalimentaire espagnole, européenne et internationale; de même que la divulgation des grands défis que présente l'agriculture du XXIème siècle par rapportt à l'aménagement du territoire, à la biodiversité, à l'agroécologie, aux systèmes de production, à la qualité de l'alimentation et à l'éducation des consomateurs.
o La sensibilisation de la société quand aux valeurs de notre organisation: le développement durable, la solidarité, le respect des Droits de l'Homme et la démocratie participative.
o La coopération internationale et la solidarité avec les paysans des pays moins développés via des projets qui améliorent leurs conditions de vie, ainsi que leur capacité organisatrice et d'auto-gestion.

Main Projects / Activities

CERAI développe ses activités dans deux zones géographiques: le Bassin Méditerranéen (Albanie, Palestine, Tunisie, Algérie, République Saharaoui Démocratique, Maroc, France, Italie et Espagne) et Amérique Latine.
Nous réalisons des projets de coopération internationale en essayant toujours de faire une analyse globale du sous-développement afin de pouvoir avoir un impact sur ses causes structurelles et de définir des propositions d'alternatives.
Par nature même de notre organisation, mais aussi du fait que la pauvreté est en général plus accentuée dans le monde rural que dans les villes, tous nos efforts se tournent vers la réalisation de projets liés au développement rural, à l'agriculture et à l'alimentation des PED.
Dans le bassin méditerranéen, nous essayons de conserver et améliorer la biodiversité, de fomenter les séjours solidaires et responsables, de cataliser la mobilisation de collaborateurs, moyens de communication, ressources financières et alliances, de générer des alternatives qui freinent le processus d'exode rural et soutienne le développement socio-économique des femmes rurales.
En complément, nous réalisons aussi des activités de formation et insertion au travail pour immigrants, des cours et des stages de coopération intrenationale dans le monde rural, et d'autres activités d'initiaton à la diète méditerranéenne. Nous sommes aussi entrain de mettre en marche une ligne de travail tournée vers le co-développement.
Dans le département de sensibilisation, nous prétendons sensibiliser la société aux différentes problématiques que nous abordons depuis notre organisation à travers d'activités de commerce équitable, de cours d'agriculture écologique, de chantiers internationaux dans les pays du Sud et d'autres activités liées à la valoration des ressources naturelles.
