Partners: Amt für Kultur und Denkmalschutz, Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen, Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung, Ostsächsische Sparkassenstiftung, Kulturstiftung der Dresdner Bank
Mission and Objectives

Dresdner Sinfoniker are amongst the leading symphony orchestras for contemporary music. The ensemble, which is made up of members of almost all of Europe’s most important orchestras, works together entirely on a project basis. Along their way, the Dresdner Sinfoniker have managed to bring together unexpected connections between the different genres of modern music. The orchestra can look back on a number of international concert tours and successful collaborations with renowned solo artists and conductors, such as the Kronos Quartet, René Pape, Bryn Terfel, Katharina Thalbach, Andreas Boyde, Peter Bruns and Jonathan Nott. Amongst the challenges of the future, the Dresdner Sinfoniker aim to continue to make multimedia and intercultural dialogue an integral part of their musical creativity: The message of projects like "Hasretim" (2010), "Cinema Jenin - A Symphony" (2011) and „Dede Korkut“ (planned in 2013) is an inspiring and experimental guided debate between different cultures.

Main Projects / Activities

In 2003, the Dresdner Sinfoniker attracted a great deal of international attention with the song cycle « My Heart Burns» by Torsten Rasch which was inspired by the music and lyrics of the German rock band, Rammstein. The orchestra‘s recording of this work was presented the Echo-Klassik 2004 award. In collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys, they recorded a new soundtrack for Sergei Eisenstein’s legendary silent film, «Battleship Potemkin» on EMI in 2004, with a further collaboration producing the much acclaimed « High-rise Symphony» in 2006. A great deal of attention attracted the «World’s first remote conducting» in 2008. In a live satellite link-up with Dresden, conductor Michael Helmrath conducted the orchestra live from London. The multimedia concert collage « Hasretim – A trip to Anatolia» in 2010 (Dresdner Sinfoniker with turkish and armenian guests) was awarded a special prize for its outstanding intercultural horizon by the german UNESCO commission. «Cinema Jenin – A Symphony» (2011) is a transcultural project with Kayhan Kalhor (Iran) and musicians from Egypt, Israel, Westbank and USA.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

The Dresdner Sinfoniker contribute to the Network in Germany by creating music projects with an intercultural approach to support a human and social dialogue among people of different cultures and beliefs.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

The main focus of our recent projects is a cross cultural dialogue, which is exactly in line with the purpose of the ALF Network: International music projects of the Dresdner Sinfoniker like „Hasretim“, „Cinema Jenin“ or „Dede Korkut“ want to communicate between artists and cultural groups from across the Mediterranean to improve mutual respect between cultures. The musical creativity of the orchestra supports a mutual understanding, a human and social dialogue. Our culturel work as a non-profit organisation relies on additional financial support of foundations like the Anna Lindh Foundation.

General Information
The Fundació Privada Pau i Solidaritat is a foundation linked to CCOO de Catalunya, the main trade union of Catalonia, which accounts for 180.000 members. 0.7% of all trade union membership fees are destined to the budget funds of the foundation. Other than those, the foundation has 234 regular members whose membership fees provide a direct source of funding. The funds are destined to projects of trade union development cooperation in countries of the South and to labour rights campaigns in Catalonia. The staff is made-up of 3 employees and 3 trade union delegates. The partners involved are usually trade union organisations from countries of the South.
Mission and Objectives

The Fundació Privada Pau i Solidaritat, created by CCOO de Catalunya, is a NGO for the defence of Labour Human Rights across the world by means of incorporating the trade union dimension to the processes of development cooperation.
We work with trade union organizations from the South (Mediterranean Area, Latin America, Balkans Region) so as to strengthen them through projects of international development cooperation. We also implement awareness campaigns in Catalonia that revolve around the concept of decent work for everybody as well as the promotion of the culture of peace.
We take part, together with other actors of the international cooperation field, in the promotion of international solidarity policies and we also work for raising public awareness towards social change and justice.

Main Projects / Activities

Our projects in the Euro-Mediterranean region are the following:
- Support to trade union training for the promotion and strengthening of workers’ actions as democratic agents in Algeria.
- Support to the programme of assessment to unemployed Arab women of Israel in order for them to become employed in the agricultural sector.
- Programme for the strengthening and training of metalworkers’ trade unions in Bosnia-Herzegovina , Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia.
- Awareness campaign for the respect of labour human rights of women workers in the countries of the South: Egypt, Colombia, Israel and Balkans Region.
- Programme for reciprocal visiting and training of teachers between the towns of Chefchaouen (Morocco) and Girona (Catalonia).
- Publishing of an audiovisual work related to the 15th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Our main projects in Latin America are the following:
- Strengthening of trade union organizations from Central America for the accomplishment of the Strategic aims of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
- Strengthening of the organisation structure of the trade unions belonging to the cleaning sector in the Callao region of Peru, together with the promotion of a gender focus in those organisations.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We are a foundation linked to a main trade union. Therefore our management has always focused in trade union development trough international cooperation projects. We can contribute to the Network by providing a trade union point of view, id est. the point of view of an important type of social partner in society.
Other than this, we can contribute to the Network by providing it with a 20-year-long expertise on social and economic development and, above all, on Labour Human Rights integrated in the so-called triple dimension of development: social, cultural and economic.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Our organisation is now shifting its main target area from Latin America to the Euro-Mediterranean Region, where we already have been working over the last 10 years on projects in the Maghreb region, the Balkans Area and the Palestinian community of Israel.
In the framework of the Mediterranean Spring occurred over the last year and a half our organisation wants to be involved in the amelioration of the social conditions of the Southern Mediterranean inhabitants and the improvement of social dialogue in those states; the fact that the headquarters of the Union for the Mediterranean are in located in Barcelona and the Catalan tradition to look at the Mediterranean, acknowledged by the Barcelona Declaration of 1995, couples in an renowned interest for us in working with new partners in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

General Information
Research in Ethics and Globalisation is headed by 3 Chairs - Dr Vivienne Matthies-Boon and Dr Chris Lamont. Two of the Chairs are the Directors of the MENA Initiatives Programme, which is grounded in the Department of International Relations and Department of Languages and Cultures of the Middle East (University of Groningen) as well as Globalisation Studies Groningen and the Faculty of Arts. Budgetary resources: purely project related – no set amount per year Sources of funding: Dutch Ministery of Foreign Affairs, Globalisation Studies Groningen, Faculty of Arts (University of Groningen), British Academy (Durham collaborations), and more Research in Ethics and Globalisation – MENA initiative Our main partners are: University of Sousse – Tunisia Dutch Flemish Institute in Cairo – Egypt The Centre for Advanced Study of the Arab World (CASAW) – UK Global Security Institute, Durham University – UK Egyptian Centre for Human Rights Education – Egypt Kawakibi - Tunisia
Mission and Objectives

Research in Ethics and Globalisation (REG) has a special academic interest in the political and legal developments of the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) region. Focusing on Egypt and Tunisia in particular (but not exclusively), the aim of REG is to combine empirical research with political and legal philosophical considerations – thereby facilitating a critical approach that not only problematizes hegemonic discourses on/in the region but also leads to a greater understanding of the region’s complexity.
The specific themes that REG focuses on are the relation between law and theology, transitional justice, human rights and democracy.
REG is furthermore interested in the relation of all of these themes to the socio-economic problems persisting in the region – including its high rates of poverty.
With these aims and themes in mind, REG is undertaking a cluster of activities in the region, in cooperation with our key regional and international partners.

Main Projects / Activities

Our main project is the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights that we are setting up at the University of Sousse in Tunisia.
This Centre should be a hub of activity for local, national and international scholars on the issues of democracy, transitional justice and human rights alike.
Our aim is to facilitate scholarly and student exchange as well as the interplay between scholars, students, activists and political actors.
We are running a Summer School on Democracy and Transitional Justice at the University of Sousse in Tunisia, 3 -13 August – for Tunisian, Dutch and International students.
We are hosting the Making Democracy International Network. We are organizing a conference on the “Arab Revolts: Continuity or Change” at Brighton University as well as Imagining Democracy: From MENA to Asia at Groningen University.
We are a partner in the Critical Middle Eastern Studies research programme ran by Durham University, Manchester University and Aberdeen University.
Please see: http://www.rug.nl/gsg/Sections/REG/mena-initiatives

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We have a great academic capacity that not only straddles disciplines (such as law, politics, international relations, sociology and philosophy) but also national boundaries.
We have a strong local presence in Tunisia through our engagements with the University of Sousse, and our centre there.
We furthermore have strong local ties with activists in Cairo and wider Egypt as well as Libya. We believe that we can therefore contribute positively to other initiatives within the foundation.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We believe that it would be great to join forces with other initiatives, expand our engagement with both local and international actors, as well as provide our Centre on Human Rights and Democracy in Sousse as an venue for the facilitation of exchange.
We particularly prefer to work with a bottom up approach, thus working closely with local actors in the region on the ground.
This has also been our strength - and we believe that the Anna Lindh foundation would allow us to build further on this strength.

General Information

National Museums of World Culture was established in 1999 and is a government agency.

The agency consists of the Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Mediterranean and the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm and the Museum of World Culture in Gothenburg.

The National Museums of World Culture (World Museums) was formed as a response to changes globally as well as domestically. Internationalization has increased and we experience a more globalized world, while the former culturally and ethnically quite homogeneous Sweden is becoming more multicultural.

The World museums' mission is to use the international cultural heritage to provide a perspective that helps people orient themselves in this transition.

Mission and Objectives

The National Museums of World Culture is responsible for displaying and bringing to life the various cultures of our world, in particular cultures outside of Sweden. Furthermore, the agency is to document and illustrate different cultural manifestations and conditions as well as cultural encounters and variations from a historical, contemporary, national and international perspective. Finally, the agency shall promote interdisciplinary knowledge and various forms of public activities. The agency head office is situated in Gothenburg.

The National Museums of World Culture (Världskulturmuseerna) is the coordinator of the Anna Lindh Foundation network in Sweden.

The Swedish network receives an annual support from the Swedish Ministry of Culture for holding activities with members of the network and establish cross border collaboration to facilitate partnership for the Swedish civil society. In addition, the Swedish network is supported by the Anna Lindh Foundation through the network support scheme.

The Network is open to institutions, organisations and other partners who adhere to the principles and the mission of the Anna Lindh Foundation which work on the basis of democratic, pluralistic, and multilateral values.

Membership in the Swedish network is open to NGOs; Public institutions, including local and regional authorities; public and private "not for profit" Foundations; other "for profit" partners promoting "not for profit" activities and corporate social responsibility policies. However, the Network is not open to political parties or organizations and projects owned by political parties nor to individuals.
