General Information

BeVolunteer is the legal organisation running BeWelcome and is registered as a non-profit association in Rennes, France, since November 2006. The General Assembly and the Board of Directors are the official organs of BeVolunteer. Promoting the idea of hospitality by providing the BeWelcome website is the main object of the association.

BeWelcome lets you share a place to stay, connect with travellers, meet up and find accommodation on your journey. It is and will always be a free, open source, non for profit, democratic community.

Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to provide a platform for hospitality and culture exchange and to manage the volunteers involved. The safety of our members and their privacy is our main concern.

With members from many different countries and cultural backgrounds we highly value the challenge and opportunity to learn from each other and openly listen to different opinions, critics and suggestions.

For us the "how" of working together is of key importance and our work style is reflected in our work ethics and organisational values. It is our desire and measure of success to be seen as an organisation where members work together in an enriching, democratic, innovative, friendly and motivating way.

Main Projects / Activities

Our principal aim is the volunteer management and project development of BeWelcome, a community - platform which promotes hospitality and cultural exchange.

In order to reach this aim we have four objectives:

1) to establish a democratic work environment

We want to benefit from the advantages of a democratic organisation as democracy guarantees many of our organisational values. To make sure the democracy works well we want to follow the principle of subsidiarity: discussions, decisions and actions are done on organizational levels only as high as necessary but as low as possible, i.e. individuals first, then teams, then Board of Directors (BoD), then General Assembly (GA). So the best way to describe our structure is neither a representative nor a basic democracy, but a participative one.

2) to build a transparent organisation

For active volunteer contribution we want to be as transparent as possible. For this we want to make organisational data such as our statutes, the general assembly minutes and our financial statement publicly available. We will openly communicate with you through this wiki page (our library), the forum (our discussion place), news blogs and whatever you suggest us to do.

3) to encourage active member participation

Without our members we are nothing. They are the reason why this organisation exists. We are aware of that and want to show you the benefits of volunteer participation. We want to support and welcome all kinds of volunteers; some very idealistic, others more pragmatic and work oriented.

4) to build a reliable legal and organisational structure

It is important that our members and volunteers can freely contribute without having to worry about legal issues or getting lost in the organisational structure. Our last objective therefore is to provide the legally secure workplace and encourage you not only to understand the different organisational bodies but also to participate in them - if you want.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

BeWelcome has over 140,000 members in nearly every country across the globe. Given its volunteer led, the non-profit s based on Collective work. Volunteers from many different cultural backgrounds and countries working together, using the same tools and following the rules of the organisation . We really believe that this is a perfect start to create many great projects and to follow our ambitious dreams. None of us would have the capability to either envisage or realize that project. We hope that we can join network members in grant applications.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Since BeWeclome is centered on cross-cultural exchange, we want to join the network to open dialogue with civil society partners in other countries. We hope that other members can join and use our global hospitality exchange system, so as to promote intercultural understanding and dialogue regardless of ethnicity, race, gender and sexual orientation.

General Information

Giosef Torino is an organisation of social promotion, its board is made up of three people: Annamaria Simeone, president, Francesco Lisciandra, vice president, Sara Bertolino, project management. On top of that 7 professional workers and about 20 volunteers consistently collaborate with the organisation. Giosef Torino cooperates with multiple partners at local, national and international level.
The budgetary resources available to Giosef Torino are roughly 120 000 euros per year.
The funding network is composed of public local and european funds such as Erasmus+, European Solidarity Corps, REC , some funding is also private by both foundations and private donors.
Strategic partnership, Training courses, Youth Exchanges, Local workshop and Seminars and events. The Main Partners of Giosef are Fondazione Emmanuel, Centro Studi Sereno Regis, YWCA Palestine, New Generation and many others throughout the South Mediterranean area.

Mission and Objectives

Giosef Torino is an association of social promotion.
Giosef is the acronym derived from “GIOvani SEnza Frontiere”, “Youth Without Borders”. Being without frontiers is the strength to reach a better world, breaking the frame with no fear, looking beyond the appearances, stating our believes. We see in our work the opportunity to affirm Human Rights in all their aspects and contradictions, in order to promote a culture of anti-sexism and anti-racism, to counter all forms of discrimination and prejudice.
The core objectives pursued by our association are:
YOUTH WORK AND NON FORMAL EDUCATION: to produce social change through Non Formal Education on Human Rights;
INTERSECTIONAL APPROACH: to promote an anti-sexist, anti-racist culture against omo-lesbo-bi-transphobia, xenophobia, islamophobia and all forms of discrimination through an intersectional perspective;
INCLUSION AND PARTICIPATION: to promote participation and active citizenship of young people to counter social exclusion and to promote human, civil and social rights;
EUROMEDITERRENEAN COOPERATION: to promote the cooperation between European Countries and Partner Countries from the South Mediterranean regions for fostering social cohesion in Mediterranean area;
INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY: to promote international mobility and intercultural learning among youth.
Founded in 2004, Giosef Unito is actively working with Non Formal Education methodologies for young learners and since 2013 we have started to implement techniques coming from theatrical methodology in the frame of NFE. Our work is based on our certainty that new educational paradigms are needed in a fast changing society where Formal Education strategies cannot respond with the same pace to the recent challenges and developments, like the current migrants and refugees crisis in Europe.
Giosef Unito continued to cooperate with a large range of partners and interlocutors: we believe it is essential to create synergies between Formal and Non Formal Education organizations, third sector, mass media and public administrations in order to maximize the impact of our activities in line with the Agenda 2020 of the European Union.
Giosef Unito is striving for such joint effort among all the above mentioned stakeholders, keeping a permanent flow of communication, cooperation and debate around the main challenges related to the promotion of Human Rights. In order to maintain the widest perspective possible, we have developed a strong focus on intersectionality: we are fully convinced that we need to keep in mind all the identity components that contribute to each one’s self perception if we want to dismantle all the forms of discrimination. We are aware, for example, that it’s impossible to tackle islamophobia without considering the racist dynamics that lay under this specific discriminatory expression, as well as we cannot fight homophobia without analysing the traditionally constructed forms of sexism.
We completely agree with the key concept in Audre Lorde’s work: “there is no such thing as single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives”.

Main Projects / Activities

Giosef Torino main projects are built on European funding and deeply rooted in EuroMed culture and issues. They are youth exchanges, training courses, long term volunteering and strategic partnerships for innovation.
Some examples of our main activities include: an Erasmus+ Key Action 2 called "MARTI - MAke it Relevant: Tools for Intersectionality" that aims to create innovative educational approach and tools to concretely apply intersectionality in youth work in collaboration with Euroaccion-Spain, YES-The Netherlands and New Generation-Palestine; an ESC project by the name of "Vis-à-vis Volunteering for Inclusion and Solidarity" to promote solidarity throughout the EuroMediterranean area, developing international volunteering opportunities to foster active citizenship, democratic values and a peer-to-peer cooperation approach; an Erasmus+ Key Action 1, Youth Exchange "CreActive Identity” that aimed to raise awareness about Euro-Mediterranean cultural heritage among young people, through sharing local traditions and artesany"; an Erasmus+ Key Action 1 "GUAT - Gender Upon A Time" 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition that includes several activities such as APVs, Training Courses and a Study Visit in Palestine; a training course called "I-Gender" funded by the Anna Lindh Foundation; "Frame Voice Report", financed by the DARE programme in collaboration with Centro Studi Sereno Regis and the Arab Women Media Centre; and many more.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

As an organisation we have been working on promoting participation and active citizenship of young people to counter social exclusion and to promote human, civil and social rights while also promoting the cooperation between European Countries and Partner Countries from the South Mediterranean regions for fostering social cohesion in Mediterranean area. We could share our experience and our contacts with the Network to help provide an EuroMed perspective, especially focusing on youth work and youth policy, though Non Formal, intercultural and experiential learning.
In the frame of ALF Network, Giosef Torino can contribute to promote the Network, its actions and practice at national level especially in the intersection between youth and gender through education and training projects that keep a deep balance between the Euromed and the national/local level.
Since 2014, The organisation has developed several projects in cooperation with Southmeda countries using european funds such as Erasmus Plus, ESC and DARE, demonstrating high competences of management of this specific cooperation; contributing to develop educational approach, methods and tools for intercultural learning in the Region. We would like to share this capacity also in line with objectives of the ALF to strengthen its purpose and foster social cohesion in the Mediterranean area.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We want to join the ALF Network to multiply and contaminate our practices with other organisations and individuals. Being part of a EuroMed network would also allow us to improve our capacity and be more efficient in our practices and objectives to be more efficient in the promotion of intercultural dialogue and learning in the Region, demonstrating the active role of youth in these processes.
We have been a partner of the ALF project in the past and in that frame, we developed strong strategies of cooperation and promotion of the ALF principle which represents the core values of Giosef Torino.

General Information

The European Youth Parliament(EYP) Cyprus is a youth-led non-governmental volunteering organisation that has been operating since 2006 under the umbrella of the EYP network, which is active in 40 countries across Europe, in order to deliver a peer-to-peer educational programme that inspires and empowers young people from across Europe The organisation is managed by the National Committee of EYP Cyprus, which consists of 8 young volunteers. Their work is supported by external stakeholders, with the most notable partners being the Bank of Cyprus and Antenna. The organisation is also supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Youth Board of Cyprus, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Cyprus, and the Municipality of Nicosia. EYP Cyprus annually organises various conferences and trainings for the youth, with approximately €40,000-€60,000 needed for its operations. The funds are coming in from external grants, partnership sums, participation fees and event sponsorships.

Mission and Objectives

The European Youth Parliament, as one of the largest youth organisations in Europe, aims to promote intercultural dialogue and exchange through the sharing of ideas, opinions and practices to bring diverse young Europeans closer together. We are attempting to do so by providing a forum for young Europeans to develop and express their own opinions on European political and social issues in an open and welcoming environment, while simultaneously presenting them with diverse opportunities for personal and skills development through non-formal and peer-led educational activities. Through these aims, we aspire to produce a connected network of the next generation of diverse young leaders in Europe equipped with the knowledge and skills to positively shape the world around them.

Main Projects / Activities

Since its foundation in 2006, EYP Cyprus has managed to establish Annual National Conferences, which welcome over 200 participants from both Cyprus and numerous other European countries, aiming to give the opportunity to the youth of Europe to cultivate democratic values through the discussion of major issues facing the European and international communities. In addition to the Annual National Conference, EYP Cyprus organises various other events during the year, including one-day conferences, seminars for the organisation’s strategic development, educational weekends, the Annual General Meeting and many more. So far, over 3500 students from all over Cyprus and Europe, including countries such as Armenia, Albania, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine have participated in EYP Cyprus activities. Every year, EYP Cyprus organises two one-day Pre-selection conferences, a four-day Youth Summit and a four-day Annual National Conference. During these conferences, participants are invited to discuss current European issues and propose solutions through the process of Teambuilding, Committee Work and General Assembly. In 2018, EYP Cyprus organised the 1st Academic Forum, a 7-day conference which included an extended academic, and cultural programme. As part of our outreach initiative, EYP Cyprus will also be organising its third EYP Day in 2021, with the aim of engaging more individual young people, aged 15-17 from private and public schools in our events. In 2014, EYP Cyprus organised its first Alumni Day where participants had the opportunity to meet each other in a fun and relaxing environment whilst acquainting themselves with the structure and running of EYP and EYP Cyprus specifically. The event has been established as an annual event and members are invited once or twice per year to participate at Alumni Days and further engage with the National Committee of EYP Cyprus. Since 2014, EYP Cyprus has established the organisation of the Youth Summit, an event welcoming individuals aged 18-23 who were not involved prior in EYP through their school delegations to participate in a full EYP session and become part of Europe’s biggest youth platform. EYP Cyprus also organised an Alumni Weekend for all its alumni that provided an insight to the workings of the organisation over the last 15 years and the targets and vision of the National Committee for the upcoming years. A training event was also held with the aim of offering knowledge to EYP Cyprus Alumni that they can use and adapt in events of the wider network. Additionally, the annual events such as the Pre-selection Days and the Youth Summits have also taken place from February – August and welcomed over 200 participants in total. The latest event addition has been the 95th International Session of the European Youth Parliament - Nicosia 2021. One of the three annual flagship events of the EYP network, EYP Cyprus was selected to organise this monumental event, which is going to welcome over 250 participants from 40 European countries for 10 days in September 2021, and it will constitute the largest youth conference that takes place in Cyprus, with an estimated budget of €150,000-200,000. This event, as every other event of the organisation, is organised from young people, for young people.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

The European Youth Parliament(EYP) Cyprus can actively contribute to the Anna Lindh Foundation network in the island in a threefold manner: advance the foundation’s ideals through our actions , aid in the expansion of the ALF network, and support the implementation of the ALF vision. As an organisation, we can be considered an active representative of the mission the ALF is trying to achieve - a peer-to-peer educational programme that organises multiple conferences and trainings in our attempt to encourage young people to become active citizens, all while providing them with a platform that enhances their skills, provides significance and weight to their voice. Through a cooperation with EYP Cyprus the ALF will have the opportunity to advance their ideals throughout our conferences and activities, through which the ALF will have the opportunity to portray their very own work under the extensive marketing strategy that EYP Cyprus is following for its partners. As aforementioned, EYP Cyprus is part of the EYP network, a pan-European network of national organisations in 40 European countries, which cooperate on a frequent basis for the national and international conferences. EYP Cyprus could provide a bridge to the ALF to the rest of the national organisations of the EYP network, and thus be an active supporter of promoting further dialogue between mediterranean and EU countries. We have already cooperated with organisations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees(UNHCR) in Cyprus by involving refugee participants in the 14th National Session of EYP Cyprus, and the work of EYP international we have the opportunity of working directly with the Schwarzkopf Foundation in delivering common projects. On top of its international network, the national network of EYP Cyprus could also be instrumental in the growth of the ALF network in Cyprus. As one of the most credible youth organisations, various governmental and private bodies are supporting our work, with Bank of Cyprus and Antenna as our main partners, while we have been cooperating and are actively supported by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Youth Board of Cyprus, the European Parliament Liaison Office in Cyprus, and the Municipality of Nicosia. In addition to these bodies, every year, various private businesses choose to support our activities through monetary and in-kind contributions, as well as by providing their expertise and knowledge to our conferences. Through our resources, pool of existing knowledge, experience, and successful strategies in youth engagement in the area of non-formal education, we can help the ALF in achieving our common aim and one of the central missions of the ALF network, empowering young voices.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

As an organisation, we are always striving to improve. Despite being youth-led, we have come to the realisation that our operations could truly have a direct positive impact upon society, and we believe that joining the ALF network will help us to achieve our mission. The opportunity to work and cooperate with a professional body is one that can only have positive results on our very own workings, as it can shed light on areas that we have been lacking or might have not even considered yet. Simultaneously, we might have the opportunity to strengthen our strengths even further, therefore having a valuable learning experience on both ends of the spectrum. While improving internally, joining the ALF would also help us improve externally, by expanding our reach and image. . Our work would be leveraged in quality and prestige through our participation in a globally recognised network. And that could provide EYP Cyprus with newfound opportunities that we did not have access to before due to our local public relations network, which we will have the opportunity to expand further through the help, support, and participation in the ALF network. Last but definitely not least, our main reason for wishing to join the network is the very same reason that we are working tirelessly as volunteers for EYP Cyprus: to advance our mission. The fact that the ALF and EYP Cyprus share a common vision of empowering and giving a voice to the youth is something that is very unique, as it allows for a sync of minds between two different bodies; something underappreciated in many public relation partnerships. We strongly believe that ALF, acting as an ideal model with its pan-european reach and successful operations towards empowering the youth, can allow us to learn more on all aspects of running a non-governmental youth-centred organisation. By being a part of the ALF network, we are confident that we will receive the necessary tools, support, and know-how to improve our operations and achieve our mission.
