General Information

Itach-Ma'aki is comprised of 15 staff members, all women, both Israeli and Palestinian, with legal backgrounds, who work alongside volunteers and interns in order to achieve a multitude of goals pertaining to gender equality. Additionally, we have a board of directors of 10 women who are active in influencing our strategies and decisions; they also bear the responsibility of managing conflict that might arise within the organization as well as to publicly represent the goals of the organization. Apart from the official staff and the board of directors, Itach-Ma'aki relies on a public council of women hailing from different demographics, that functions as a vehicle for the dissemination of information as well as to open dialogues in the wider circles of Israeli/Palestinian societies. These women are critical in the domain of event-planning and the facilitation of open discourse between women coming from different backgrounds.

Because Itach-Ma'aki is a non-profit NGO, it receives its funding exclusively from donations. Alongside donations made by generous individuals, we have a list of primary donors that can be found on our website. (http://www.itach.org.il/our-donors/?lang=en)

Mission and Objectives

Itach Ma'aki is a multi-faceted organization with multiple goals that each reflect our main mission; to achieve and utilize gender equality in a society afflicted by conflict, division, and violence. One of the most important objectives is to amplify the voices of women who are typically silenced, specifically the many minorities residing within Israel and the occupied territories. In order to achieve this, we are very education-focused and plan events to open dialogue between women coming from different demographics.

Our staff is comprised of both Israeli and Palestinian women who are committed to building bridges between our respective communities by advocating for peace, and by extension, advocating for the end of harmful practices by governments on both sides that marginalize and further isolate women, including but not limited to the building of illegal settlements in the occupied territories, violence and profiling against and of minorities, and the denial of full civil rights to minorities viewed as "dangerous" or "undeserving." We recognize how the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is inflamed by the lack of female representation in authoritative and diplomatic entities, and we look towards countries who have resolved conflicts, in (large) part by incorporating women in negotiations, as prototypes for our own efforts to utilize women's conflict resolution skills.

Notably, we see the grave injustices experienced by minority demographics in Israel, such as economic inequality, domestic violence, and educational disparities, and understand that women in these demographics bear the brunt of these injustices. We feel obligated to use any resources available to us to mitigate the harm experienced by these women, including our backgrounds in law and our voices as activists, to curb the harm and bring about a more equal society.

Main Projects / Activities

Itach-Ma'aki has a vast repertoire of projects and initiatives that reflect our mission and objectives. The following are some of our most successful and impactful projects:
- Haifa's "City for All" - taking models from other cities worldwide (Taiwan, for example,) and using them to implement gender equality in local Israeli government, in this specific case, we are working in Haifa.
- Center for Bedouin Women's Rights - established in 2006 through our Be'er Sheva branch with the intention to provide Bedouin people with support, specifically with issues relating to the economic strife experienced by Bedouin women. We work with the National Insurance Institute to provide income support, especially to single mothers.
- Domestic Violence Hotline - Itach Ma'aki runs a 24/7 hotline, operated by experts in the field of domestic abuse, to provide ongoing and consistent support and assistance to women experiencing domestic violence, however it may be manifested. Many times, we have helped remove women from threatening situations, thanks to our hotline.
- Legal assistance to women whose rights have been infringed on - Itach Ma'aki prides itself on providing pro-bono legal aid to victims of injustice across Israel. Some of our most prevalent legal victories have had to do with improving the incomes and rights of educational assistants who are unjustly terminated or whose incomes are reduced due to circumstances out of their control that are inextricably related to their gender (maternity leave, for example.)

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Part of Itach Ma'aki's main goals has been to build expansive networks with other organizations in Israel similarly devoted to the realization of gender equality and inclusion in the domain of peace negotiations. Along these lines, we have active partnerships with impressive NGOs that have catalyzed important developments in Israel and Palestine regarding our shared goals. Some of these organizations include WIPS – Center for the Advancement of Women In the Public Sphere
at Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, Advah Center - Information on Equality and Social Justice in Israel, Anashim – Movement for Advancing Equality in Israel, and many more. We are well-connected and well-known in the peace-building community. Additionally, we work with international bodies such as the UN and EU and have, on numerous occasions, advised them on matters concerning women's integration in peace negotiations, as well as on broader, gender-equality-related topics. Our contributions to our country's network often are in the form of spreading information and educating the general population on subjects that have either been shrouded in stigma, or pushed under the rug. We recruit expert speakers to lead conferences and lectures with the intention of spreading awareness and creating a more informed society. Some of our most successful events and networking initiatives have been:
- our lecture series on Resolution 1325, where more than 30 experts spoke on topics surrounding gender equality. Some speakers included foreign ambassadors and other renounced diplomats, academics, and top activists.
- a joint-steering committee including Israeli and Palestinian women, who meet on a regular basis to address issues that are affecting their communities and in turn, educate each other on a wide variety of topics. This allows bridges to be built and empathy to be integrated into the realm of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, which is typically defined by hostility and lack of understanding.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

The ALF Network acts as an instrument for organizations to educate the masses while simultaneously establishing strong relationships with other organizations with whom common ground is shared. Itach-Ma'aki strives, if nothing else, to do exactly that; we wish to provide nuance and care to a conflict that has divided Israeli/Palestinian society, and to delineate the fact that no issue as complex as this one has a simple solution. The first step is to open a civilized discourse within different communities so that we can understand each other better. By joining the ALF,

Mission and Objectives

JDC-Israel's mission is to help Israeli society to enhance its own capacity to meet the needs of its most vulnerable members, the elderly, children at risk, people with disabilities, chronically unemployed. Thus JDC always works with partners, both governmental and civil society, through strategice interventions to develop or improve the responses that Israel itself offers to its most pressing social needs.

Vulnerable Immigrant Groups: Helping immigrant groups such as the growing Ethiopian-Israeli population to overcome long-term integration challenges.

General Information
Mission and Objectives

General Information
Jerusalem Season of Culture (JSOC) is headed by Naomi Bloch-Fortis, Executive Director; Itay Mautner, Artistic Director and Karen Brunwasser, Deputy Director, managing a professional staff of 20. The organization is supervised by a 6 member board of directors chaired by Mr. David Gappell.   JSOC's 2015 budget was $4,790,000. Main sources of funding: The Schusterman Foundation, The Russell Berrie Foundation, The Nadav Fund, The Charles and Andrea Bronfman Philanthropies, The Maimonides Fund, The Leichtag Foundation, The Morningstar Foundation, The Solelim Fund, The Paul E. Singer Foundation and a host of Israeli and international private donors. JSOC operates concerts, workshops, performance art, seminars and multiple-disciplinary site specific cultural events, cultural tours and work closely with Jerusalem civil society organizations. Main partners: The Jerusalem Municipality, The Jerusalem Development Authority, The Israel Museum, The Tower of David Museum, The Hansen House, The Jerusalem Music Center (Mishkanot), Israel Democracy Institute, The Van Leer Institute
Mission and Objectives

The Jerusalem Season of Culture is an independent, non-profit arts organization created to share the city’s extraordinary but often overlooked cultural life with the world. Each summer, we create a schedule of original, city-specific productions that traverse artistic disciplines, unfold in breathtaking locations, draw inspiration from the city’s landscapes, stories and people, and create moments that could happen only in Jerusalem. Our mission is to use art and culture as a neutral and inviting platform and facilitator for dialogue, inter-religious and cross-cultural dialogue and shared society. Through this JSOC aims to breakdown stereotypes and prejudice, transcend pervasive paradigms that limit the city's development and create an environment in which audiences and artists can meet, share experiences and familiarize themselves with alternative cultures.

Main Projects / Activities

Our activities include:
Jerusalem Sacred Music Festival - for one week, the festival turns Jerusalem into a place where, through music, utopia is offered the chance to burst through into the city’s daily reality and inviting nations and faiths from all over the world to come to Jerusalem and celebrate themselves.Contact Point - a frenzied night of art and people at the Israel Museum which has developed into a cultural highlight and is eagerly awaited by thousands of people every year. The event, which begins as night falls just after the museum closes, invites artists from a wide spectrum of artistic genres to present new, original works that interact with museum spaces, the concept behind the museum and the works exhibited within it.Frontline - a festival that defies all definition proudly showcases Jerusalem’s independent music scene. Frontline ramps up Jerusalem’s alternative sound which plays under the radar, here and now and despite and maybe because of the city’s inherent craziness. In-House Festival – stretching the boundaries of  private homes to a more general and expansive concept of what constitutes a “home.”, questioning what home means to the general populace, the city and in some cases, to peoples that are fighting over the same house.Under the Mountain – a public art festival focusing on the biggest and most important public stage in history—the Temple Mount. In a series of commissioned works we neutralize and re-charge a site that has already seen a thing or two (from the Binding of Isaac the ascension of the Prophet Muhammad from the earth to heaven to the murder of Jordan's King Abdullah), converting  this political and national volatility into an artistic explosion which ranges from a meeting with Israel border police, inter galactic sculpture to a Canaanite rave.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

JSOC has proven to be an effective connector and coordinator of the city's many different organizations, voices and forces. JSOC was conceived as an organization that worked primarily in the field of arts and culture and quickly became an important voice in the city and a close collaborator with the cities many and growing number of civil society organizations. As such, we have become the go-to organization for many of the city's political, social and cultural leaders who feel we can represent the city in an innovative way and convey its depth and complexity. We believe that we as an organization are in a unique position to maximize the network's impact and outreach both on the national as well as international/Mediteranean level. As Jerusalem represents a microcosm of Israel's social fabric and national challenges JSOC can serve as a well-placed conduit for the Network's activity.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

While JSOC started out as a local initiative, our central goal has always been to serve a wider national as well as international audience. We believe that the ALF Network can be crucial in creating and nurturing international partnerships and cultural programming.  We have already partnered with artists and organizations from Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Serbia , Croatia and many more. We believe that being part of the ALF Network we would be able to reach out to many more cultural entities (especially from the Mediteranean basin region), who might be hesistant to work with us, but will be more willing if we have this connection.

The Israel Gay Youth Organization (IGY) was established in 2002 and has since grown into the largest and most widespread LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) organization in Israel, with activities in 22 cities and towns across the country – from Kiryat Shmona in the north to Be'er Sheba in the South. More than 1,500 young people regularly attend these activities and the numbers are rapidly growing. The organization employs 5 hired staff members and over 150 volunteers. We are headed by a Board of Governers. Our main sources of funding are the Ministry of Education, municipalities, National Social Security, foundations, businesses and private donors. Municipalities and the Ministry of Education are also partner organizations, and we partner with many NGOs, especially from the LGBT community, in all our projects. Our projects focus on LGBT youth - social groups, program in schools, youth club, youth leadership.
Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to empower young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth, help them achieve self-acceptance and help them grow as individuals, thus creating a network of young, confident LGBT leaders for Israel’s future society.

Main Projects / Activities

Social Groups and Youth Club
• LGBT youth meet for social activities in their home town once a week. The group provides them with peer support and role models.
• At our Tel Aviv youth club, young people come from all over Israel to meet other LGBT people of their age in a place that is their own.
• Topic groups: HIV positive, transgenders, religious groups, lesbian empowerment.
Nir Program
Named after Nir Katz, the program is Israel’s Gay-Straight Alliance. The program aims to eliminate school bullying and homophobia and make schools a safe, welcoming place where LGBT teens can thrive.
Leadership Programs
