General Information
As “Studio for Hybrid Culture” we work at the intersection between art, art education, social art and activism. We develop and implement regularly own artistic, educational and curatorial projects, often in cooperation with partner organizations from different sectors of society. A particular focus of our work is on media work as a tool for sharing visions and experiences, both within and outside the (institutionalized) art context. Through the creative use of audio-visual media, we promote social participation and support the creation of counter public spheres (Gegenöffentlichkeit). With our project activities we want to communicate those visions that are not taken into account by mass media and mainstream culture.
Mission and Objectives

With our activities we bring an innovative vision to field of art and audio-visual media: those visions and the visions of those who are not taken into account by mass media and mainstream culture. We offer members of various communities means and creative space to express themselves and develop a self-conscious artistic point of view. We create awareness around issues that are not examined by traditional media and not represented at official cultural institutions.

Main Projects / Activities

(1)In our current social art project we work with youth on the topic of subcultural self- expression, using urban art forms such as Hip Hop and Graffiti. (2) In our video classes we introduce migrant youth and children of migrants to powerful tool for telling their stories and make them heard. (3) In our artistic and curatorial work we search for new roles and meanings of artistic in our society, within and outside the institutionalized frame.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

We have experiences for years in trans-cultural project work. As artists, activists and cultural scientists (Kulturwissenschaftler) we can contribute to the interdisciplinary practice in the field, but also bridge between art and culture, civil society and academic discourse.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

As founding members of ActiveVision Tel Aviv we are active since many years in an ALF network organization.
Since we moved to Berlin we also would like to continue our social art activities within the German network .

They have two part-time employees - the other members of the association are working in an honorary capacity. Other sources of funding are foundations, sponsoring. The orchestra is working on a project basis, i.e. all musicians work on a project by project basis. The orchestra creates concerts with temporary music, main focus is often a dialogue between different cultures. Partners: Amt für Kultur und Denkmalschutz, Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen, Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung, Ostsächsische Sparkassenstiftung, Kulturstiftung der Dresdner Bank
Mission and Objectives

Dresdner Sinfoniker are amongst the leading symphony orchestras for contemporary music. The ensemble, which is made up of members of almost all of Europe’s most important orchestras, works together entirely on a project basis. Along their way, the Dresdner Sinfoniker have managed to bring together unexpected connections between the different genres of modern music. The orchestra can look back on a number of international concert tours and successful collaborations with renowned solo artists and conductors, such as the Kronos Quartet, René Pape, Bryn Terfel, Katharina Thalbach, Andreas Boyde, Peter Bruns and Jonathan Nott. Amongst the challenges of the future, the Dresdner Sinfoniker aim to continue to make multimedia and intercultural dialogue an integral part of their musical creativity: The message of projects like "Hasretim" (2010), "Cinema Jenin - A Symphony" (2011) and „Dede Korkut“ (planned in 2013) is an inspiring and experimental guided debate between different cultures.

Main Projects / Activities

In 2003, the Dresdner Sinfoniker attracted a great deal of international attention with the song cycle « My Heart Burns» by Torsten Rasch which was inspired by the music and lyrics of the German rock band, Rammstein. The orchestra‘s recording of this work was presented the Echo-Klassik 2004 award. In collaboration with the Pet Shop Boys, they recorded a new soundtrack for Sergei Eisenstein’s legendary silent film, «Battleship Potemkin» on EMI in 2004, with a further collaboration producing the much acclaimed « High-rise Symphony» in 2006. A great deal of attention attracted the «World’s first remote conducting» in 2008. In a live satellite link-up with Dresden, conductor Michael Helmrath conducted the orchestra live from London. The multimedia concert collage « Hasretim – A trip to Anatolia» in 2010 (Dresdner Sinfoniker with turkish and armenian guests) was awarded a special prize for its outstanding intercultural horizon by the german UNESCO commission. «Cinema Jenin – A Symphony» (2011) is a transcultural project with Kayhan Kalhor (Iran) and musicians from Egypt, Israel, Westbank and USA.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

The Dresdner Sinfoniker contribute to the Network in Germany by creating music projects with an intercultural approach to support a human and social dialogue among people of different cultures and beliefs.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

The main focus of our recent projects is a cross cultural dialogue, which is exactly in line with the purpose of the ALF Network: International music projects of the Dresdner Sinfoniker like „Hasretim“, „Cinema Jenin“ or „Dede Korkut“ want to communicate between artists and cultural groups from across the Mediterranean to improve mutual respect between cultures. The musical creativity of the orchestra supports a mutual understanding, a human and social dialogue. Our culturel work as a non-profit organisation relies on additional financial support of foundations like the Anna Lindh Foundation.

General Information
EIRENE is the greek word for “peace“ and for EIRENE International Christian Peace Service it is more than just a name. Peace, just like war, is not an abstract state of nature, it is made by human beings. In other words, peace is something to work for and peace building is at the centre of our efforts. In line with our founders, namely the historic peace churches (MCC, Brethren and Quakers), we strive for a peace which means much more than the absence of violent conflict. For a sustainable contribution to a peaceful future, peace building has to take into account livelihoods, human rights (including social, economical and cultural rights) and the empowerment of people to build their own lives in dignity and in harmony with their neighbors and their environment. Hence, our activities as a Peace Service range from initiatives to help settling conflicts about natural resources (which may include land for agricultural use as well as water or subsoil resources) to the support of grassroots organisations and local development projects in marginalised areas or youth work, inter-religious dialogue and volunteer programs in Germany and Europe as well as in our partner countries. In all these efforts, we work in close cooperation with our local partners. Structure: EIRENE is registered as a non-governmental non-profit organisation in accordance with German law and has its central offices in Neuwied, Germany. The work of our staff is supervised by an executive committee which in turn answers to a general assembly of members. Currently, EIRENE is employing 29 paid staff at the central offices in Neuwied in addition to 28 peace building and local development experts and about 100 volunteers in our partner countries. EIRENE also has an independent branch in the Netherlands.
Mission and Objectives

Promote peace and better understanding among peoples by combating poverty, falsely-directed development, social injustice, political tensions and cultural oppression, in a non-violent and ecumenical spirit based on love of one's neighbour and in willingness to face the consequences of acting non-violently; encourage the building of democratic civilian societies in which non-violent means of dealing with conflict replace violent confrontation.

Main Projects / Activities

Our current projects involve cooperation with partners in Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, France, Ireland, Bosnia, Romania, Bulgaria), North America (USA, Canada), Latin America (Nicaragua, Bolivia) and Africa (Morocco, Niger, Chad, DR Congo, Burundi, Mali, Burkina Faso).
