Cengiz Günay

Is the Deputy Director of the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (oiip), and a lecturer at the University of Vienna and the University of Graz. In 2018/19 he was an Austrian Marshall Plan Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute at the Nietze School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC. Cengiz Günay's fields of research are democratization, the rise of neo-authoritarian systems, neoliberal interventions and their repercussions on the state and statehood, Islamism and Euro-Mediterranean Relations. His regional focus lies on Turkey and the MENA Region. Günay has published a wide range of articles, analyses and policy papers on these questions, and is also a commentator on Turkish and Middle Eastern affairs in national and international media.
