General Information
The Byzantine Music Ensemble – Lebanon (BMEL) has currently the form of a vocal ensemble that undergoes and carries out a continuous workshop. It has no fixed staff except its founder and leader, Mikhael Hourani. The number of members varies currently from five to twelve, according to the timing and circumstances of every event. BMEL is self-funded and has no external sources of funding. The main activity until present time was teaching the traditional Byzantine Music and Chant, executing them in live services in several churches in Lebanon, and performing them in concerts. As affiliated to the “Fondation pour la Musique Classique Arabe”, the BMEL shares with it common values, educational views, and field of action, cooperating with the Université Antonine (UA) where both groups directors act as academicians: Professor of Musicology Nidaa Abou Mrad, Director of Higher Institute of Music (ISM) and Mr. Mikhael Hourani (DEA), teacher of Musicology.
Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to promote music appreciation by educating our youth and reinforcing them with their religious cultures.
We strive to thrive to become a reference school of byzantine chant where we don't only teach reading music notation but we transfer live tradition.
Besides the Byzantine one, we are targeting to integrate and embrace different cultures of the region, including Armenian Orthodox and Islamic ones, that all turn out to be one continuum in essence although sometimes similar and sometimes different in appearance. We aim to illustrate our traditions and disseminate them integrated within a global vision.
The cornerstone that our education encourages youth to imbibe is the tradition. While the cornerstone in practice is to set free from mere notes towards live improvisation.

Main Projects / Activities

Our main activities until present time were:
• Performing live services at several churches (Feasts Vespers, Liturgies, all-night Vigils. Etc.).
• Performing live concerts on stage in local and international festivals.
Besides, we have an ongoing project: recording a CD of masterpieces composed by former Arab Antiochian musicians.

General Information

Cedars Phoenix Alpha to Omega, nonprofit organization was established in 2023 by a dynamic team, after leading a seasoned professional expertise for over 20 years in the fields of education, social work, social-vocational integration, counselling, lectures, law and politics, democracy, international relations, and community based development programs. Our concerns about inclusive education have resulted in reshaping traditional schooling, in order to induct it into the society and communities for the service of all people, especially youth in forms of projects, policies and engagement. Cedars Phoenix strongly believes that education is a birth to-death inclusive process, and everyone shares in the responsibility of educating all members of the community. Consequently, it will lead to expanding the traditional role and image of
education within a safe supporting community; developing learner/citizen approach for problems, challenges solving; and sustaining flexible pillars on local, national and
international levels to impact everyone else from local community members, government, families, neighbors, scholars, and the individual. We are strongly committed to
make this happen, and we know that there are people like yourselves, who believe in fostering change toward greater equality, democracy, human rights and social justice through community-based learning, through enabling people, especially youth, the under-served, and people with special needs to transform themselves and to improve the quality of life.

Mission and Objectives

Our main mission and long-term goal is to create regional centers for comprehensive lifelong education, awareness, empowerment, and effective practical implementation of democracy, systems, human rights, public opinion, public freedoms and democratization of systems, especially for marginalized groups, women, youth and people with special needs. The goal is for these centers to extend to all Lebanese regions to serve people in all dimensions of their individual and national life.
Therefore, we decided to diversify our activities to include arts, culture, crafts, workshops, health, social support, environment, agriculture, tourism, human rights and religious encounters.

Main Projects / Activities

Artistic and Cultural Educational Programs
Advancement of Human Rights
Crafts and Industrial Workshops
Charitable Social Health Center

General Information
The Centre for Lebanese Studies was founded in 1984 by a group of Lebanese. Their objective was to set up an independent academic institution that would undertake impartial and balanced research and contribute towards Lebanon's recovery and long-term stability. They aimed to promote a better understanding of Lebanon and to help find solutions for its problems. The Centre for Lebanese Studies' affiliation to the Middle East Centre at St Antony's College, Oxford, and the support provided by the late Albert Hourani and other fellows of that Centre is a major factor in its success. A research committee comprising scholars of international reputation advised the Centre on its programme and the late Marwan Buheiry (1984 -1986) and Nadim Shehadi (1986 - 2005) directed the Centre. Currently, the research fellows appointed through the research fellowship programme, are influential in defining the research and activities of the Centre. We have four full time employees. The centre is funded through individual donations.
Mission and Objectives

The Centre for Lebanese Studies (CLS) is an independent academic research institution whose purpose is to promote international understanding of the country and the issues facing it. Our objectives are: To promote better understanding of the national and international issues relevant to Lebanon through the pursuit of independent objective academic research into the political, social, educational, historical, economic, and cultural issues of Lebanon. To inform policy-makers in Lebanon and make recommendations based on research findings in connection with issues facing Lebanon. To provide support and information for governments and international institutions in the formulation of their Lebanese and Middle East policies.

Main Projects / Activities

Education for social cohesion project. This project aims to: Promote active citizenship education and behaviours by focusing on developing students’ competencies, skills and attitudes Foster a supportive, democratic, and cohesive school environment that encourages participation and empowers the whole school community Assess and monitor the impact of this approach on young people's political, civic, and social attitudes, knowledge and skills. History Education: One of the few things that the majority of Lebanese from various spectrums of life seem to agree on is the urgency to develop a common History textbook, which will somehow unite the nation and solve the problem of confessionalism. Although, education including History education can play a role in addressing some of the causes that might lead to civil war, the current approach proposed in Lebanon suffers from several gaps. The passive and indoctrination approach contradicts the concept of education in democratic countries, and has also proved to be ineffective. Hence our study sought to adopt an inquiry based approach to History Teaching learning, which emphasises a critical and analytical pedagogy. Our hypothesis is that by developing these skills, students will be more able to challenge and critique the prejudices of their sectarian groups and understand and appreciate similarities and differences amongst groups.
