Soil & More International B.V. is a company based in Holland, active in the setting-up and management of large scale composting sites in developing countries as well as CO2 emission reduction and carbon assessment projects. Soil & More International BV was founded in 2007 on the principle that economy and ecology are indissolubly connected. The company’s corporate objective is to contribute to commercial as well as ecological and ethical values in the global market. Faithful to these goals, Soil & More offers a range of products and services that are briefly described in the following.
Mission and Objectives

Soil & More International B.V. is a company based in Holland, active in the setting-up and management of large scale organic composting sites in overseas countries as well as CO2 emission reduction and carbon assessment projects. Soil & More is the first company in the world generating verified emission reductions from organic composting, implementing an UNFCCC (United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change) approved methodology.

Main Projects / Activities

Soil & More sets up and manages large scale composting sites in developing countries. It
is the first company in the world generating verified emission reductions from composting, implementing an UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) approved methodology. The compost produced is made using unwanted and superfluous waste plant and animal material, most of which currently presents a
threat to the environment. Thus, Soil & More offers the host countries a sustainable waste management solution. Furthermore, the compost offers farmers a welcomed alternative to environmentally harmful, and increasingly expensive pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Soil & More’s unique composting technology not only transforms
“waste” into high quality compost ready for use within 8-10 weeks, but also qualifies for an emission reduction project according to UNFCCC’s guidelines. Soil & More’s
commercial activities help to improve the economic situation in developing countries,
support their social development and contribute to the protection of the environment.

General Information
SPARK! Ventures is an educational and entrepreneurial youth summer program founded in 2007 under the auspices of The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a result of a group research project investigating the reasons behind the rapid growth of some developing countries over others. This research showed that countries whose economies were based on a strong domestic enterprise grew faster than those whose economies were based on Foreign Direct Investment. Egypt was chosen by one of the researchers, Sherife Abdelmessih, as the location for implementing the project. In its pilot phase, the program was individually led and made possible by a number of full time volunteers who committed themselves to SPRAK! during the summer. SPARK! then developed and expanded to include 4 full time staff in addition to a team of 10 volunteers, workshop leaders and speakers. Since it was established, SPARK! depended on corporate sponsors to fund its programs and activities.
Mission and Objectives

SPARK! aims to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem in developing countries in order to create a domestic enterprise that leads to rapid and sustainable economic growth. Headquartered in Egypt with operations in several Mediterranean countries, SPARK! has created a talent pipeline to include high school students, college students and fulltime entrepreneurs through its diverse pioneering programs. This talent pipeline brings in youth with high potential and gives them the resources they need to act on and fulfill that potential, producing high impact leaders and entrepreneurs every year that bring about the much needed change in their societies. After the rollout of the entrepreneurial ecosystem is complete in Egypt, SPARK! aspires to replicate this in other regions since the program has been designed with a modular, scalable and inter-regional approach. Moreover, SPARK!’s long-term objective is to create a revolutionary educational system for K-12 and university programs that would produce leaders similar to the renaissance generation.

Main Projects / Activities

SPARK! hosts a number of programs targeting 3 different age groups: SPARK! Mediterranean Summer Camp for promising students from top high schools to further develop their life skills and to equip them with the know-how to develop their ideas into business plans. Its Entrepreneurship Summer Program tailored for exceptional college students who have demonstrated strong entrepreneurial initiative. The program equips them with the tools and skills they need to turn their ideas into businesses and social ventures. This is in addition to the topic-based programs for college students such as the product design program and the web and mobile application program. Furthermore, the SPARK! Venture Launch Pad targets early stage startups and supports them by providing them with seed funding, office space, a strong mentor network and overheads such as legal, accounting, consulting & marketing support, in addition to taking an active role in developing their strategy and business model.
