  1. Environment/Sustainable development
General Information

We are a global grassroots movement with a mission of not only protecting our natural world but creating a simple and easy way to scale action that mobilizes communities to fight for a sustainable future on our planet. What first began as a way to give back to our environment has turned into a gateway into activism for the everyday individual spanning all continents and spectrums of climate justice. The movement is now made up of over 14 chapters, with participants on six continents and in 40+ countries creating a ripple effect inspiring not only more awareness of the global waste management problem but opportunities to learn how to overcome the issue and hold the culprits accountable.

Mission and Objectives

Our mission is to mobilize local leadership on trash infrastructure with a specific focus on empowering youth to reshape the landscape of the waste crisis worldwide. The organization operates through a network of volunteers on an international scale and local chapters who organize weekly or monthly clean-up events and educational outreach initiatives in their communities. We formulated our approach to provide a bridge that expands individual efforts into group, community, agency, and government wide initiatives that have resulted in participants in 40+ countries, over 50,000lbs of trash removed from our environment since in 2020. The organization's mission is to engage and empower individuals--especially in vulnerable regions--to take action to reduce litter and waste in their local environment, weaponize their voices and to promote sustainable practices that benefit the planet as a whole. Our initiatives focus on key issues such as waste management, plastic pollution, frontline justice, and intersectionality. These are detrimental problems that affect minority communities the most—requiring the greatest support and immediate attention.

Main Projects / Activities

The Tuesdays for Trash movement is a global community-driven initiative that empowers individuals to take action towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. Our mission is aimed at creating a gateway into climate activism for the everyday person that reduces waste and promotes climate education as well as sustainable living. This weekly event mobilizes participants to come together to clean up their local environment and raise awareness about the global waste crisis facing our world in order to hold those responsible accountable. These actions directly address Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to education, sustainable cities/communities, peace-building and mental health.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Integrating Tuesdays for Trash into the Anna Lindh Foundation network in Israel offers a unique opportunity to contribute to environmental awareness, community engagement, and cultural integration. Collaborative clean-up events can be organized, fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility among members. Educational workshops can be conducted within the network to highlight the impact of working together for our shared home and provide practical tips for sustainable living. Joint environmental campaigns can be launched to raise awareness about regional environmental challenges, utilizing the foundation's platforms to reach a broader audience. Tuesdays for Trash can serve as a cultural bridge, showcasing its adaptability to various cultural contexts within the Anna Lindh Foundation network. This integration can strengthen community ties, promote cross-cultural exchange, and empower youth to actively participate in environmental initiatives.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Participation in the network and events related to cultural exchange and dialogue of ALF would help us advance environmental practices aligning with the foundation's goals. Collaboration on research projects and advocacy efforts can further contribute to promoting sustainable practices and policies within the Anna Lindh Foundation network and beyond. By hosting networking events, individuals and organizations within the network we can come together to share ideas, discuss challenges, and explore collaborative opportunities in the realm of environmental conservation. Overall, the integration of Tuesdays for Trash complements the foundation's mission, fostering positive change, dialogue, and understanding in Israel and the wider Mediterranean region.

TUESDAYS FOR TRASH

New Member Spotlight

The Anna Lindh Foundation - Israeli Network proudly introduces its new member, Tuesdays for Trash. This grassroots environmental movement is dedicated to mobilizing communities worldwide, advocating for behavioral changes and championing the creation of a healthier planet for all. Their mission extends beyond safeguarding the natural world; it aims to simplify and streamline actions for a sustainable, trash-free future globally.

Like so many new endeavors, Tuesdays for Trash (also known as T4T) started during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Co-founders of T4T, Sharona Shnayder and her friend, Wanda McNealy wanted a way to get outside and give back to the community during lockdowns.

What began with these two friends picking up trash in their neighborhood grew into an initiative to give back to the environment and now has evolved into a catalyst for individual activism, transcending continents and encompassing various aspects of climate justice. What started now spans 40 countries with more than 10 chapters.

Within the Israeli context, their focus lies in uniting diverse individuals from different backgrounds, communities, and sectors to collectively engage in environmental care efforts. By fostering a sense of shared commitment to a cleaner environment, their cleanups play a pivotal role in nurturing a collective responsibility for peace-building.

Tuesdays for Trash actively organizes events, particularly in Tel Aviv's Arab neighborhoods, where municipal support is most needed. Collaborations extend to initiatives such as the President’s Climate Forum, Ecopeace Middle East, and Breaking the Silence, aimed at communicating and establishing a comprehensive understanding of intersectionality within environmentalism.

A total of 20 employees, both full and part time. Funding comes from US Aid, War Child Holland and private donations. $500000 budgetary resources available in a year. Our flagship project is the joint production of the Hebrew-Arabic magazine written by Palestinian and Jewish youth ages 12-16. There is also a video program, activity centers, an arabic course, and other actions such as humanitarian aid.
Mission and Objectives

Organization Summary: Established in 1991, Windows is a joint Palestinian-Israeli educational organization that seeks to strengthen values of human rights, equality, and democracy among Palestinian and Israeli youth.
As an organization, we function through a unique triangle framework with equal representation of Palestinians from the Occupied Territories, Palestinian citizens of Israel and Jewish Israelis. Our flagship project is the production and distribution of Windows Hebrew Arabic Youth Magazine , a bilingual magazine written for and by Palestinian and Israeli youth. Our activities are designed to empower young people to be agents of change in their communities, leading their societies towards a more democratic and equitable future. Our work in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) focuses on education and community outreach programs that foster critical thinking, democratic values, and leadership among Palestinian youth.
Through our programs, Windows participants gain skills in journalism, verbal expression, and activism enabling them to become positive forces of change and development in their communities. We place a particular emphasis on reaching disadvantaged sectors of Palestinian society and we have extensive experience working in refugee camps and high-conflict areas. Through working with these populations, we provide disadvantaged youth with practical skills in journalism and expression, as well as a strengthened commitment to democratic values that enables them to be leaders in the development of Palestinian society.

Main Projects / Activities

At Windows we believe in the power of long-term programs, in the ability of youth to become change agents in the region, and in media as a tool to overcome stereotypes and fear. We invest in small groups of young people who use media to disseminate alternative information and thus serve as catalysts for social change through increasing access to knowledge in their communities and in society at large. During our Youth Media program, a multi-year, four-stage program, Windows participants go through a long-term process of growth and empowerment that focuses on media and critical thinking skills as methods to affect change in the region.
The Hebrew-Arabic Youth Magazine is the primary output of our Youth Media Program , and reflects the courageous and complex journey of our Youth Media Program participants. We complement these groups with large-scale activities including: in-school workshops for Palestinian and Israeli youth, as well as community outreach initiatives such as lectures, film screenings, and exhibitions.

WIIS Israel was founded in September 2010 by Julia Chazkel and Lea Landman at the IDC Herzliya, Herzliya, Israel. WIIS Israel is currently funded by private donors, help from WIIS headquarters in Washington D.C. and membership fees collected annually but is building its development as a top priority to increase the size of the projects it currently operates and to become completely independent from the Washington branch. WIIS Israel works closely with other Women in International Security affiliated around the world (many of which are located in Europe). WIIS Israel works very closely with an organization called Magnoos Consultants on our mid-level training program as well as the Institute for Inclusive Security, Gvahim, Heseg, the major universities in Israel, Tel Aviv University, Haifa University, Hebrew University, IDC Herzliya, Bar Ilan University and Ben Gurion University.
Mission and Objectives

WIIS Israel is dedicated to increasing the influence of women in the fields of foreign and defense affairs in Israel and the greater Middle East by raising their numbers and increasing awareness about international security issues and women’s rights. WIIS Israel seeks this through two avenues, the first being our programming, mentorship programs, training programs, networking between women and the second avenue in through our research. The research aspect of WIIS Israel is to rather relevant information on women in the field of security to help increase the influence of the field including major research on women's influence in the peace process, the perception of women in the field and how it can aid the peace process, the influence of women in conflict zones and post-conflict reconstruction among others.

Main Projects / Activities

Mentor Program:
This incredible opportunity allows students and entry-level women in the field to connect with successful women in the Israeli military, government, universities and research institutes. These professional women will provide career advice and as well as personal encouragement to women aspiring to grow and develop in their professional goals and aspirations. These mentors are for life, and are matched with individuals according to the individual’s specific career interests.
Education Program:
WIIS Israel is partnering with the top universities in Israel to hold monthly lectures on campuses across the country. Participating universities include Bar-Ilan University, Haifa University, Hebrew University, Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya and Tel Aviv University. The lectures include a broad spectrum of topics including security and conflict resolution as well as practical workshops such as CV building and interviewing skills.

General Information
Women in the Picture Association is a non-profit organization with the objective of promoting films made by women internationally alongside the exposure of Israeli and foreign women filmmakers to the Israeli audience. The Association's signature project is the International Women's Film Festival, which takes place in Rehovot for six years now. The project is prepared by a steering committee of six women during a whole year. The committee watches, sorts, discusses and assembles an innovative, bold and original program. The festival is supported by significant bodies and organizations, such as: the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sport, the Council of Cinema, the Municipality of Rehovot, the Rehovot Foundation of Culture, the Delegation of the European Commission to the State of Israel, the Lottery (Pais) Council for Culture and Art, Israeli film funds, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassies, the Second Authority for Television and Radio. Among the projects the association advances: • The International Women’s Film Festival in Israel • Grants and scholarships to women filmmakers for writing a script for a feature • Screenings and meetings for the advancement of equality between the sexes among youth in the ages of 11-18 • Empowering and Advancing Women in the Periphery through Films made by women • Establishment of a new and unique archive of films directed by women in Israel
Mission and Objectives

Objectives of the association:
*To promote and expose films made by women from Israel and the world
*To change the status of women filmmakers in the film and television industry in Israel
*To promote equality and social justice for women using women-made film
*To expose the Israeli audience to films directed by women, which focus on women and their world.
In order to fulfill our goals, we have established a pioneering international film festival in Israel, that focuses on films directed by women only and which put women and their world in their center. These festivals have as a long tradition in Europe, but in Israel this is the first festival focusing on advancing films made by women. Such films allow a profound critical look on our lives and we believe that they can lead a social and conscious change among the audience.
The association’s activity focuses on curating exceptional fascinating programs of film by women world wide. During the International Women’s Film Festival in Rehovot, a large audience is exposed to the films and in the months following the festival, films, meetings and seminars go out from the festival to other towns and cities around the country from north to south. The objective is to maximize the exposure of such films, alongside a novel public discourse which is to challenge existing patterns in Israeli society and allow a new look on our lives here.

Main Projects / Activities

The Association's signature project is the International Women's Film Festival in Rehovot whose mission is first and foremost, to allow women to desire, to create, and to reveal their work.
Each year the festival screens approximately 70 films directed by women from Israel, Europe, USA and other locations. The Festival grants the extraordinary opportunity of direct encounters with filmmakers, the opportunity for female debate on selected social and humanistic fields, and of course, the viewing of a variety of films.
In addition to promoting and advancing women film makers, the Association is dedicated to promoting equality and women's rights, especially in peripheral locations where traditional roles are still common and women have fewer opportunities to advance and express themselves. This project aims to raise awareness to the status and advancement of women in the periphery through the screening of films created by women which feature women and their worlds.
In 2008, the association also started to award Israeli filmmakers with grants to allow them to continue their work in the film industry. In order to increase the representation of women in the film and television industries as well as to change the sad statistics of 5% representation of women out of all filmmakers.

General Information
Women's Spirit is an Israeli non-profit organization which aims to promote women victims of violence from an unsafe state of victimhood into a state of personal and financial independence. Our days, 350 women victims and 300 volunteers participate in Women's Spirit's variety of programs, during which each woman participant takes part in one or more of the followings: employment workshops, personal occupational coaching, individual occupational mentoring and special skills workshops (computers, English). Other Women's Spirit activities include a special program for women living in shelters for battered women, budget management courses and a business women forum. The Women's Spirit organization is comprised of 11 workers, including the CEO. The organization's budget is based on donations from private and governmental funds, annual fund raising events and 'in kind' donations. Women's Spirit main partners include business women, local businesses and business owners, municipal authorities, local women aid organizations and hundreds of volunteers.
Mission and Objectives

Women's Spirit has three main objectives:
a.Making a change in society, through promoting legislation benefiting women victims of violence in the employment market, and raising public awareness in the labor market and in society to women victims of violence’s financial state and to society's responsibility to take action on behalf of women victims of violence.
b.Providing women victims of violence with efficient tools to achieve financial independence and self-reliance, and to place them in long-term positions that are appropriate to their skills and career ambitions.
c.Development of a supportive infrastructure within the labor market and the business world, in order to promote women victims of violence's opportunities in the employment market and to remove structural barriers facing them in their struggle to achieve financial independence.

Main Projects / Activities

Standing their ground - Women's Spirit operates this unique program aimed at promoting women victims of violence's financial independence while providing each woman with her own individual program, suited to her unique circumstances and needs. The program is designed to allow women victims of violence to rebuild their sense of self-worth and to motivate them to change their personal and professional life:
Employment direction process – individual intake session and a group workshop meant to realize each participant needs and career aspirations.
Support Measures – each participant takes part in one of the three:
1. Career development workshop. 2. Individual occupational coaching. 3. Individual mentoring meetings.
Development of employment skills – each woman participates in advanced training according to her individual career plan – computer skills, English, etc.
Implementation of the career plan - each participant integrates in one out of the two: 1) into the employment market. 2) Into Micro business development program.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Women's Spirit has developed a unique model to assist women victims of violence to create a change in their life and to reach financial independence. This model has shown high rates of success as over 70% of the women who enter the Women's Spirit program found honorable and sustainable work.
Within the framework of the ALF network, our organization can contribute to other organizations from the knowledge and experience that comes from working closely with victims of violence in rebuilding their lives, recruiting community members and local business women and men to the cause and raising awareness to the issue.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We in Women's Spirit acknowledge the issue of violence against women as a global problem, crossing different nations and cultures.
In our experience, there is a strong link between violence against women and financial dependence, which makes this issue a social and national concern – more than a personal one.
In order to overcome such a complicated phenomenon it's crucial to raise awareness and recruit all branches of society – individuals, businesses and governmental authorities. This can be done by the spread of knowledge on this matter, investing in education and the development of programs that would put an end to reoccurring violence against women.
The ALF recognizes the strength of a network in the efforts to create social and cultural change. We in Women's Spirit agree with this notion and believe that joining the ALF network can yield great opportunities for cooperation with other organizations – both in Israel and abroad.
Such cooperation's immediately expand our resources and allow for cross fertilization with the exchange of knowledge and experience between the different organizations.
