The CLEANALP project, which was organized by an alliance including The North Face Explore Fund and coordinated by the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA), with support from the European Research Institute, aimed to address plastic pollution in the Alps. Extensive research on microplastics in the snow was conducted as part of the project, with the objective of safeguarding the alpine habitat across low, medium, and high altitudes.

The CLEANALP project involved various activities such as clean-up events, stakeholder and volunteer training, school initiatives, public events, workshops, and communication campaigns via social media and press coverage.

Participants had the opportunity to directly engage in clean-up activities, receive training, and attend workshops, thereby contributing to the protection of the alpine environment. The project takes place from March 2022 to July 2023 in remarkable alpine locations, including the Parco delle Alpi Marittime, Parco Nazionale del Gran Paradiso, and Parco Nazionale della Valgrande.

Individuals interested in making a positive impact on the environment, learning about plastic pollution, and contributing to scientific research had the chance to participate in the CLEANALP project.
