Exhibition "AIdermal Renaissance" by Haris Handžić in Sarajevo

As part of the VIII International Festival GRAD 2024 in Sarajevo, September 10, 2024. at 6:00 p.m. in the JU Center for Culture and Youth of the Municipality Center at the address: Jelića no. 1 will be the ceremonial opening of the exhibition "AIdermal Renaissance" by Haris Handžić, who discusses the topic of art and explores the boundaries between man of the new age and artificial intelligence

More than a century has passed since Marcel Duchamp caused a revolution in the art world with his provocative work "Fountain", an ordinary urinal that transformed the perception of art. From that moment, art forms underwent radical changes, rejecting traditional academic frameworks and opening the door to new concepts that went beyond purely visual and aesthetic criteria.

Entering the 21st century, with the development of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), a new layer of questions about the nature of art opens up. Does technology mark the end of art or, as some suggest, its rebirth? The exhibition we present asks these questions and tries to offer answers by exploring the interspace between human creativity and algorithmically generated art.

Technological products, especially those from the AI sphere, may at first glance seem like empty and superficial expressions, often used for commercial purposes. Their visual appeal can be deceiving, as they often show inconsistencies in detail that make the observer feel uneasy. But the real question the exhibition explores is: can AI reach a level of creation that has artistic depth, emotional impact and intellectual message?

Key moral and aesthetic questions are raised: Is coding a new form of art? Can a person using an algorithm be considered an artist? If the experience of art is subjective, why is there resistance to technology as an artistic tool?

The exhibition challenges visitors to reconsider their views on art and to face a dilemma that humanity has never faced before: can we accept something that is not human, has no gender, age, race or body, as an equal participant in the dialogue about art? AI may be a mirror of our ambitions and aspirations, but the question that remains is - does learning through imitation represent creativity, or is it just a reflection of ourselves?

This exhibition is open to the public from [10/09/2024 - 22/09/2024], and all lovers of art, technology and philosophy are invited to attend this innovative and thought-provoking journey.
