General Information

Nya Kompisbyrån is a non-profit organization that strives to increase social inclusion and cohesion by bringing together newcomers to Sweden with established Swedes. We link people with common interests to meet for a coffee (in Swedish fika), a dinner, or another fun activity of their choosing. These days we also offer online meetings and events for our participants.

Our job is to make integration easy and accessible for everyone. Nya Kompisbyrån is the result of a merger of previously separate organizations Invitationsdepartementet och Kompisbyrån. Since 2014, we have matched over 40,000 people in Sweden.

Our participants are between the age of 18-90 years old and from over 130 countries.

Nya Kompisbyrån receives continuous financial support from the foundation Axel Johnson to develop and upscale novel approaches and activities. Axel Johnson operates the initiative Axelerate.

Mission and Objectives

We believe in a society where people meet, talk and build relations. A society where social exclusion and xenophobia are replaced with a welcoming culture and social cohesion.

Our vision is to increase the sense of community in the society by enabling meetings between people with different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures.

Our meetings lead to improved Swedish language skills, larger social networks, increased chances to get a job, greater mutual understanding, and enriched societies.

We offer simple forms of social inclusion that are easy and fun to take part in.

Facilitating multicultural dialogue we see as an important means for fighting social inclusion and xenophobia and promoting fundamental rights, mutual understanding, and a sense of community.

Main Projects / Activities

All our main activities aspire to link people with different backgrounds yet with common interests to meet for a coffee (in Swedish fika), dinner or online.

We create friendship that leads to: 97 % of the new Swedes feel more or much more welcome in Sweden after a dinner, 95 % of all our participants feel that they have learned something new about another culture, and 28 % of the participants who were jobseekers got a job or internship with the help of their new friend.
