Artkhana is a space that aims at enhancing the production of short documentary, fiction and animated films in Egypt by producing several models, made by independent artists, through a well established workspace that,
• Motivates and utilizes the ideas, talents and creativity of young artists
• Introduces their products in a professional way
• Supports production phases and marketing
Artkhana was established in Alexandria to address the low standard of independent animation production all over Egypt, as well as to broaden and enrich the base of cultural life in Egypt by establishing an art house for animation films, documentaries and short films in a non-centralized city like Cairo.
• To enrich media programming for both children and adults with films, cartoons and serial programs which are generated by local Egyptian realities and issues.
• To reflect the changes and challenges of globalization and raise awareness on issues e.g. child labor, smoking and drugs.
Our mission will be carried out through funding of projects, rental of equipment and facilities, organizing workshops, and the creation of a database/network of individuals and organizations working in the field. The main activities are:
1. Organizing filmmaking and animation workshops.
2. Providing labs, rehearsal rooms and filmmaking equipment.
3. Selecting projects for production funding following a call for proposals and a selection process.
4. Creating a database of artists, users, directors, actors and others, containing profiles and contacts, which will be turned into a website after a year.
5. Supporting individuals to cooperate and form teams.
6. Providing post-production services such as sound editing, mixing, subtitling, applying for festivals, printing and advertising.
Training workshops: a series of workshops will take place this summer 2009. Each workshop will be from 5 to 10 days long.
