General Information

Animed is a Tunisian enterprise specialized in the conservation and enhancement of cultural heritage in the MENA region. It seeks to advance cultural education and tourism, enhance capacity building programs for youth to improve employability, and support entrepreneurial initiatives to ensure sustainable development.
By adopting the principles of Iter Vitis – the cultural routes of the Council of Europe – Animed regards cultural heritage as an added value to the progress of communities and an asset in the service of their growth.
Animed contains a permanent staff of 4 people, and ad-hoc staff that goes up to 10 people.
It has partners in Tunisia, especially institutional partners: the National institute of Heritage and the Agency of Enhancement of Heritage.
the budgetary resources available are around 50000€, from EU projects.
The modalities of action are concrete projects of development aiming at realizing the Sustainable Development Objectives through cultural assets, and more precisely heritage.
The main partner involved in Animed's projects is the Agency of Heritage Enhancement et Cultural Promotion (AMVPPC).

Mission and Objectives

Animed objectives are to:
• Promote the cultural heritage in Tunisia and the region as a destination of distinction
• Raise awareness and visibility of historical sites for local populations and tourists
• Expand the concept of cultural tourism as a main source of economic revival for local
communities
• Develop the production of artefacts as a major tool for sustainable development
• Build local capacities, enhance job opportunities and improve quality of life

Main Projects / Activities

In November 2020, Animed launched a project to promote and improve the visibility and the sustainablity of Tunisian archaeological sites and historic centers called "Blassa".

Blassa focuses on economically disadvantaged regions in Tunisia, which paradoxically have a great cultural resource, in order to promote it as a socio-economic lever.

The project is divided in 2 parts:

The first part is about visibility and consists of a digital platform set to highlight these regions and incite people for their visit by grouping all the attractions (cultural and alternative ones: natural experiences, adventures, ...) and by producing a short video aout the main cultural attraction: An archaeological site or a museum

The second part is about sustainability and consists of forming local guides from each of these regions to raise the awareness of the local community of the importance of the cultural heritage, and to make it a source of economic development in the region.

The guides will be also highlighted in the platform that allows an online booking.
