We put particular focus on documentary film-making and involve professionals in that field to teach participants fundamental and expert elements of this medium, including  journalist skills,  research, interview techniques, camera, sound, and more.

Participants focused on such diverse topics as new ways for political participation, Europe's response to migration, homophobia, and happiness in life. More projects are planned in 2016, in Europe as well as in neighbouring countries including Morocco, Turkey, Armenia, and Ukraine among others. The projects planned involve the integration of migrants in Europe through social entrepreneurship, giving professionals and students in the field of integration the opportunity to experience themselves and integration procedure in a new culture, and intercultural communication in borderlands and their role for the preservation of peace.

General Information

Radio ARA is an independent, non-commercial radio station that has been operating in Luxembourg as a community radio station since 1992, initially serving alternative communities such as environmental, feminist and LBGQ groups, as well as specific music communities. Radio ARA consists of three not for profit organisations, one of which is ARA International Community Radio asbl.

Mission and Objectives

Access to information without language barriers is essential for everyone, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine has shown us that no small community should be forgotten. There are volunteers who currently work on our multilingual show project and we have identified others who are willing to work with us, alongside Ryse and Passerell asbl on this new Podcast Project. We will create an Outreach Platform where we host small 3.5-minute podcasts in different languages. Each podcast offers bitesize accurate information that will help vulnerable people understand and navigate the situation they find themselves in and where they are in the legal process. We believe the access to accurate information will alleviate much of the stress and misunderstanding that occurs, in this way alleviating potential tensions that may arise for society. Much of the development within Radio ARA in the past years has been due to changes in Luxembourg as a society, and it is important to recognise the support we have received from Oeuvre and the important work we have achieved since the first the Salaam Show, then through the addition of the multilingual shows is extremely important and valued by many in Luxembourg. Our integration projects have been pivotal in stabilising and solidifying Radio ARA’s role as a community radio for all in Luxembourg.

OUR ACTIVITIES FINANCE THE NEXT ONES.
Mission and Objectives

RIFF, IN MUSIC IS A KIND OF REPEATED MELODY, PLAYED BY THE RHYTHMIC INSTRUMENTS. THE TERM COINCIDES WITH OUR IDEA OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND PROMOTION OF AN INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE. WE STARTED PLAYING RIFFS IN 2010 WITH FIVE YOUNG PEOPLE FROM FOUR DIFFERENT COUNTRIES THAT WERE PASSIONATE ABOUT ARTS, MUSIC, MEETING NEW PEOPLE AND THAT HAD THE WILL TO DO SOMETHING NEW IN LUXEMBOURG - THE COUNTRY THEY ALL SHARED AS THEIR NEW HOME. THE PROJECT THAT STARTED IN AN INFORMAL WAY, WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION’S PROJECT “YOUTH IN ACTION AND LATER PROGRESSED TO AN A.S.B.L. THE PROJECT GREW AND MORE PEOPLE JOINED THE TEAM AND OUR EVENTS GOT MORE AMBITIOUS,
ALL AROUND THE GOAL OF UNITING PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND CULTURAL BACKGROUNDS DISCOVERING NEW CULTURES THROUGH ARTS, MUSIC, FOOD, CINEMA AND INFORMATIVE ACTIVITIES. FOR 7 YEARS WE HAVE PROUDLY TRAVELLED AROUND THE WORLD WITH THE ORGANIZATION OF OVER 30 WORKSHOPS DEDICATED TO DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND REGIONS, WE HAVE ORGANIZED 7 MUSIC FESTIVALS, CONNECTING ARTISTS FROM LUXEMBOURG TO THOSE FROM THE REST OF EUROPE AND THE WORLD AND WE HAVE TESTIFIED THE IMPACT OUR FESTIVALS HAD IN THE LATER COOPERATION THROUGH THIS NETWORK. LASTLY, WE HAVE BEEN ORGANIZING THE RIFF WORLD VILLAGE FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS GATHERING NEARLY 800 PEOPLE AND OVER 100 ARTISTS AND PERFORMERS. WE HAVE MET, INCLUDED AND COOPERATED WITH MORE THAN 3000 PEOPLE, VOLUNTEERS AND ARTISTS IN OUR ACTIVITIES AND WE CONTINUE TO CULTIVATE AND EXPAND OUR CREATIVITY IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THESE EVENTS.

Main Projects / Activities

THIS ELECTRIFYING EVENT IS A CONCERT NIGHT WITH THE IDEA OF BRINGING INTERNATIONAL AND LOCAL BANDS TOGETHER ON THE MULTICULTURAL LUXEMBOURGISH STAGE, AND GIVE THEM A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THEIR MUSIC AND CULTURE WITH THE PUBL IC. WE CHOOSE THREE TO FIVE PERFORMANCES WITHIN THE REGGAE/SKA/PUNK/GYPSY/ WORLD MUSIC STYLE, RARELY REPRESENTED IN LUXEMBOURG'S FESTIVAL

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

RIFF HAS ALONG ITS SEVEN YEARS OF EXISTENCE CREATED A LARGE NETWORK WITH NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS IN LUXEMBOURG. WE CAN THEN HELP IN GETTING THE ALF BEST KNOWN IN LUXEMBOURG AND CONNECT THE FOUNDATION TO NEW ACTORS. THUS ACTIVITIES CAN BE MORE VARIOUS.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

THE REASON WHY RIFF WANTS TO JOIN THE ALF NETWORK IS FIRST BECAUSE OF THE VALUES OF THE FONDATION THAT WE ALL SHARE.
THE SECOND REASON IS THAT WE THINK THAT WE COULD REALLY GAIN ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS COLLABORATION
