The Friendly Family Association was founded in 1994 with the aim of providing more opportunities and services for individuals with intellectual disabilities in Egypt. It began with the introduction of Special Olympics International in Egypt, under the leadership of H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak-Honorary President of SOE,Chairman Dr. Eng. Ismail Osman, and President Mrs. Magda Moussa.
Special Olympics Egypt provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions for challenged individuals in a variety of olympic sports, providing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and happiness.
Above all, Special Olympics allows individuals to excel in a sport, prove their capabilities, give them a sense of pride, and provide opportunities for greater involvement in the Egyptian community and internationally in the Special Olympics International competitions and games.
n 1999, The Friendly Family Association introduced a second international program called ''''. Best Buddies aims at enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for socialization and employment through one to one friendships between individuals with intellectual disabilities and non-disabled peers.

Another three very important programs offered by The Friendly Family Association are the ''Healthy Athlete'', ''Vocational Training'', and ''Families & Volunteers''. Healthy Athlete is a program aimed at providing full medical examinations for all athletes, to ensure that they are physically fit to take part in Special Olympics, and to provide year-round medical advice and assistance for all athletes.
Vocational Training aims at training intellectually disabled individuals in a variety of fields in order to provide work opportunities. Lastly, the Families and Volunteers program provides knowledge, training, guidance, and support to volunteers & families of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
