General Information

The intellect and debating society is a social club that was founded in Amman, Jordan on November 21, 2016, by students at Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT). We are a platform for the Jordanian youth, that are interested in debating, to raise awareness,  to influence the environment and make a difference within Arab and international communities. Our society has over 400 members from multiple universities in Jordan. We partake in many projects that are usually funded by PSUT. However, each project is funded by different sources, we also have many partners inside of  Jordan who provide us with financial and logistic support such as; Ministry of Youth and PSUT. Other partners include Phi Scientific Institute and Qatar Debates. We have many concrete projects that we hold on an annual basis, these include Debatathon, Rushd and Al Muhtaraf. We hold multiple seminars and training sessions throughout the year in local schools and universities.

Mission and Objectives

Our vision is to have an effective and influential youth platform, which contributes to building a strong, liberate, and a confident generation that isn’t afraid to break the boundaries, and hold on to their core values which make them up as separate individuals, and as a community as a whole.  We aim to create awareness within the society, to enhance the linguistic and speech skills of the Jordanian youth in numerous languages. Also, we aim to enable them to present their primary values and principles using constructive tools in a distinctive and civilized way. Furthermore, to be able to face challenges and overcome them with the correct and new methodology. Our ambition is to promote healthy criticism, take in and accept diversity in all forms.  We aim to resolve controversies and disputes  Recognize the strengths and weaknesses of arguments Compare between different ideas, and opinions Learn how to accept other points of view and perspectives  Learn how to build constructive arguments  Build a community that is interested in learning how to have a real effective debate on a topic  Create a public opinion on controversial issues Having discussions and debates on technological, economic, environmental, democratic, and other topics that are rapidly changing Creating a safe, and open-free environment and platform that enables people to present their ideas, arguments, and opinions   And most importantly, learn how to have a constructive discussion and debate,  and not argue for the sake of arguing

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

As a pioneering institution in empowering public speech and sound argumentation, and being an active platform for the Jordanian youth, we intend on empowering, inspiring, bringing together the society, and building a movement to promote ways to enhance healthy thinking, accepting other points of view, creating awareness through using constructive tools in a distinctive and civilized way.  We found an opportunity in our society, as everyone wants to promote healthy criticism, but none have the right tools to move in that direction, but we created a platform that enforces, directs, and enables people to present their primary values and principles in a civilized manner.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

We want to join ALF because it will increase our chances of adding more value and reaching more people to deliver our message. We want to spread and implement a healthy way of thinking, knowing how to criticize appropriately, build correct arguments, and having a debate for the sake of hearing different perspectives.  We also want to provide a platform that builds a safe zone for arguments and inclusivity. We want to create a comprehensive approach to reach a solution. Thus, fighting radical ideas and narratives, but in a new and sophisticated way. We aim to reach as many people as we can, and joining the ALF will help us reach that goal. As well as inspiring generations to raise their voices, fight for what they believe in, and generally build a more open community that is able to communicate properly.

General Information
Who we are? We are a group of Jordanian women locally rooted in our commitment to help our community and globally connected in our endeavor; to promote world peace and intercultural understanding started our first steps on March 2005. We respect the differences among faiths and traditions as we also appreciate elders and youth from different walks of life, different faiths, share the same goals and aspirations, voluntarily willing to work hard for making our world better place.
Mission and Objectives

Goals & Objectives Voluntary works and community service. Capacity building. Local and global interfaith work. Intercultural exchanges. Networking. Social and recreational activities.

Main Projects / Activities

Or message: We are looking to build bridges of love and mutual understanding between all nations, we want to reach out to each other, we want to be friends, it would be a greater freedom to stop hiding behind our arms and bravely stretch out a hand and offer an open heart. We should raise above all differences and see our spiritual oneness, we should learn to love each other and to appreciate the nice things that people do, if we keep talking about the good things, we will forget all the superficial differences that divided us. If we go a little deeper, where is the black and where is the white? Where is the Muslim, Jew or Christian? The spirit has no white or black, Muslim, Christian or Jew? This is the real spiritual life: talking in terms of spirit, love in terms of spirit, this is the real union of communication; we cannot communicate with GOD with out having communication with our fellow beings. We believe that we can't change the whole world, but we are ambitious to make a little difference in people's lives , we love , encourage, support, and hope for them, we must be the living example of God’s kindness by our smile and warm greetings.

In 2010, the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies RIIFS was appointed as the Head of the ALF Jordanian Network. RIIFS was established in 1994 in Amman, Jordan, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal. RIIFS is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation that provides a venue for the interdisciplinary study of intercultural and interreligious issues with the aim of defusing tensions and promoting peace, regionally and globally. RIIFS focuses on promoting common human and ethical values that contribute to strengthening cooperation and interfaith relations, eliminating mutual misconceptions about the ‘other’ and ultimately expanding these shared commonalities in the hope of promoting peaceful coexistence.

The Jordanian Network consists of 118 members. The goal of the Network is to promote acceptance of pluralism and cultural diversity, mutual respect among societies, religions and beliefs and the acknowledgement of the rule of law and fundamental freedoms in the Euro-Med region and to engage large and diverse audiences in the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.

The Network’s activities align with RIIFS interests and objectives covering a wide range of topics carried out according to an interdisciplinary approach, including but not limited to: creative dialogue through arts, raising awareness and building capacities of youth and women in different fields, inclusive citizenship, facilitating the creation of EuroMed collaborations and partnerships, and mapping priority areas of intervention and synergies among dialogue actors.

الخلفية التاريخية لشبكتك

At the start of 2007, the Head of the Jordanian Network was the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy, the ALF organized, in partnership with the Network, a national training seminar for NGOs and civil society groups in Amman which included components on: networking and new media tools; the development of transnational project proposals in the field of media, culture and education; sharing good practice in cross-cultural dialogue work; a simulation of project evaluation and monitoring. In the same year, the ALF also organized a seminar on ‘Linguistic Awareness of Cultures’ and a teacher training workshop on ‘How to Use New Teaching Materials on Religious Diversity in the Classroom’.

In 2010, the Royal Institute for interfaith Studies RIIFS, was appointed as the Head of the ALF Jordanian network. RIIFS was established in 1994 in Amman, Jordan, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal.

Jordanian civil society has been actively involved in developing, leading and partnering in transnational projects for intercultural dialogue, creating partnerships with organizations in more than 30 Euro-Mediterranean countries; projects have focused on the field of education, youth, artistic creation and academic cooperation. In May 2011, the Jordanian Network organized its first common action "Alwan Baladna" festival in collaboration with the Network members and under the patronage of HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal. The same month saw the ALF organize the first Euro-Med High-Level Meeting of Television Leaders at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

Among its activities was a capacity-building activity, entitled “Social Media: Influence and Change”, in response to the “Believe in Dialogue: Act for Citizenship” ALF initiative; and several general meetings with key civil society organizations to formulate network strategy. Moreover, the National Network organizes each year a program of several activities on “Active Citizenship” that is implemented in the governorates of Jordan (north, middle and south) reaching youth, women and refugees. Its latest capacity building was under the title ‘’Dialogue for Citizenship’’ in December 2019.
