General Information
The Department of Cultural Policy mediates knowledge about cultural political and administrative structures, as well as cognition and practice-competences within the fields of culture mediation and arts education as a base of governmental and private structures. It also provokes the ability to reflect on cultural political contents and aims to develop quality measurements as a mediator of arts and culture. The close relation of this department to the artistic departments of the University of Hildesheim offers the chance of an audience-adressed as well as art-adequate management. The Department of Cultural Policy is working with an enhanced concept of culture, which is focussed on the theory and practical work of the arts. Further requested information please see attachment.
Mission and Objectives

The Department of Cultural Policy is dealing with questions of acting in the field between cultural policy, the arts and social and politic processes in development. Based on the understanding of the individual approach of studies on Arts, Aesthetics and Cultural Studies at the University of Hildesheim, the focus lies on social development processes within and through the arts. The questions are about cultural infrastructures and development cooperation in general, and what in specific this can and has to be, concerning the arts, arts education and promotion and funding of arts and culture. As an academic research institution we are seeking contact to practical actors and to the instances of political conception and strategy planning.

Main Projects / Activities

The Department of Cultural Policy, in means of its research and educational assignments, puts effort into being a gateway between science and practice. The practice of cultural policy still poses a desideratum of research in the context of international cooperation. Thus there is a lack of adequate study programs for cultural management in many partner countries. Based on this, the aim of the Department of Cultural Policy is to participate on the closure of this research and education-desideratum through individual projects and projects in bilateral and international cooperation, with new insights, conclusions and practice recommendations. Based on the lectureship of the University of Hildesheim, structures and strategies of cultural policy are being analyzed in bachelor-, master-, diploma- and doctoral thesis, as well as in individual research projects. Furthermore the Department of Cultural Policy is active as an adviser to governmental, parastatal and non-governmental institutions.
