The National Council of Women

An update by the President of National Council Of Women, Malta

The last few months have been incredibly active for the National Council of Women (NCW) as we gear up to celebrate our 60th anniversary. We are excited to commemorate this milestone with various events that reflect our commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment.

In May, during our Foundation Day celebrations, we were honored to bestow Dr. Roberta Metsola with Honorary Life Membership at Casino Maltese. In the presence of dignitaries, members, and friends, we celebrated her remarkable contributions to our community and congratulated her on her recent re-election as President of the European Parliament.

We are also thrilled to announce that NCW is now a part of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD) – Civil Society Committee, where we will represent the vital concerns of Gender Equality. Our members have actively participated in various consultations and conferences throughout the year, including the recent discussions on the National Strategy and Action Plan on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings in Malta.

In our ongoing commitment to community education, NCW is organizing a series of classes this year, demonstrating our active engagement with diverse groups. Recently, we successfully conducted a Maltese Conversation Class for foreign workers, STEM science classes for toddlers and their caregivers, and we have proudly launched reading sessions for children of various ages in collaboration with the National Literacy Agency.

As a council, we are dedicated to recognizing the success stories of women from various sectors, who serve as role models for emerging generations. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the women who were elected to their respective local councils during the recent elections in June, a testament to the progress we are making.

Over the years, NCW has gained prestige and recognition, thanks to the tireless dedication of both past and present members. We are proud of the enthusiasm that all our members bring to the table, continuously proposing innovative ideas for the benefit of society.

I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to everyone, especially our dedicated teachers, for their unwavering support throughout the last academic year. Your commitment and hard work, even during the summer heat, have made our courses at NCW a valuable resource for our community.

Warm regards,

Dr. Rebecca Berry Wellman

President, National Council of Women
