The organisation is dedicated to pursuing educational strategies for developing global citizenship as a fundamentally important priority in international development strategies. 80:20 has 7 overarching goals as part its approach. These are: Goal 1: Design, develop and deliver high quality information, research, resources and publications Goal 2: Build educational opportunities to develop capacities, cultivate dispositions and grow leadership on human development and human rights realities Goal 3: Strengthen and support the developmenteducation.ie consortium strategic partnership Goal 4: Engage in appropriate opportunities to demonstrate the impact of our work in education, human rights, women’s rights, climate change and human development. Goal 5: Continue to consolidate effective and added-value partnerships Goal 6: Maintain accountable, transparent and effective policies, procedures and practices across all operations, including finance, administration, governance, environment and employment. Goal 7: Achieve cost-efficient financial stability.

Main Projects / Activities

80:20’s main activities include: • Let’s Talk – an education project which aims to give young people a chance to become involved in discussing and taking action on issues such as climate change, conflict, sustainable development, peace and reconciliation. • Catch Them If You Can – an education project for young adults and educators on how the international financial system systematically disadvantages the poor of the world to the advantage of the rich and what you can do about it. • 7th Edition, 80-20 Development in an Unequal World – supporting the production and engagement of teachers, civil society activists and students in the best-selling educational resource – now used internationally in South Africa, Australia, the UK, the US, Zambia and, of course Ireland. The 7th edition of 80-20 is co-published with the New Internationalist. • developmenteducation.ie – 80:20 maintains and works in partnership on a key development education reference point in Ireland, developmenteducation.ie, as a partnership-based project that supports and delivers popular education on development and education issues, guided and financed by a consortium of non-governmental organisations including Aidlink, Concern Worldwide, Self Help Africa, the Irish Development Education Association (IDEA), the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) and Trócaire. • Facts Matter: A Guide to Building Critical Media Literacy in Today’s World – a partnership project with the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) to develop an introductory guide for adult literacy and adult education practitioners who wish to build their students’ knowledge, understanding, skills and confidence in critical thinking, media and digital literacy. The guide also supports tutors to engage with what it means to live in an increasingly unequal world and to invite students to question and challenge this (such as tackling online abuse against women and girls, tackling hate speech and de-escalating hate). • Production and publishing – as a small publisher, 80:20 is involved in all stages of production in conceiving and developing multimedia and resource products, both as part of its own programme work and in collaboration with others. Our work has included non-formal education and curriculum specific resources. Got an idea that you’re interested in exploring with us? Get in touch. • Curriculum development work – engaging and advocating in curricular and policy reform opportunities (and joint submissions) on a regular basis, including, for example, during the consultation phase of the National Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development (2014) and periodic subject reform at the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. • Consultancy and evaluation – research, evaluation and resource production consultancy activities and initiatives in development and human rights education such as resource production (across all stages of production), be-spoke global citizenship and human rights education workshops and capacity building training.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

80:20 can: - link in with other members of the network to explore and build collaborative partnerships - produce resources - we offer resource productions support within our sector (such as training guides, podcasts, video materials, poster work, resource guides and books etc.) - bring our international work into the Network, for example as a member of Euromed Rights - mix education, the arts and activism as part of educational productions (for example, we organised the Irish Global Solidarity in 100 Objects exhibition in 2020, which is now online https://developmenteducation.ie/100objects/) - we are the lead agency and consortium member of developmenteducation.ie and can support members re distributing resources and stories of change.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

80:20 has always had an active youth agenda as part of its programmes over the last two decades. 80:20 wants to join the ALF Network in particular to: - access and learn about the lived experiences of young people and members across the Network to inform our own 'thinking', resource production priorities, training materials and programme design. - integrate our planning and work agenda with ALF as part of the next strategic phase of work from 2023-27 - engage in strong partnership work across the Euro-Mediterranean region - seek funded opportunities to build considered, valuable and tangible opportunities in supporting young people's voices, spaces, co-collaborations and the agency of young participants to advocate for and influence decision makers (for example via policies, local structures, companies etc.) - not just in an ad hoc manner! - to blend education, the creative arts and 'educational activism' as an approach to challenge extremist narratives and doing 'literacy' work on key issues such as women's rights, anti-racism, climate justice and global justice.

General Information
I'm the organiser of the Arabic Culture Meetup in Dublin and have one assistant. In the past I had been involved in many charities in Yemen and intercultural events for example: "Home Away From Home", an informative organisation for foreign women/men married to Yemenis and living in Yemen through social activities. In Ireland I volunteered in several festivals and fundraising my own projects and also got donations, the rest is my own funds and efforts. Two recent projects are "Art from the Land of Queen Sheba" for which I set up a group called "The Yemen Connection", friends of my parents who worked for Concern in Yemen. Another event was "Arabesque Night", Presenting 2 Arabic bands, belly dancers and world music DJ. Both were a great success last September 2012 at the Ranelagh Arts Festival.
Mission and Objectives

A self sustaining organisation for Arab, non-Arab, Irish and international people of all ages to promote Arabic culture and diversity in Irish society.
My objective is to create a hub that offers a place for intercultural exchange between the Irish, Arab and the international community as a whole.

Main Projects / Activities

Main activities are in the arts and culture, to give information and reinforce good relations through social events. For example: art exhibitions, dinners, talks and tours at The Chester Beatty Library, lectures in Trinity College, Arabic music events, social Arabic language meetups for those who are learning or need to practice. I show Middle-eastern, Arabic and Asian films.
Through the Arabic Culture Meetup 52 events have been scheduled so far since September 2012 when I became the organiser. Today there are 108 members of mixed nationality including Egyptian, Iraqi, Syrian, Moroccan, Jordanian, Palestinian, Yemeni, Iranian, Turkish, French, British, Spanish, Hungarian and of course a lot are Irish. I have made sure to have at least one meetup a week, and sometimes there could be 3 hence I invited 2 members to assist. I hope to eventually have an Arabic cultural hub in Dublin, a place where people can meet or get information.

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

I have many dependable contacts in Yemen, and some in Egypt whom I would be able to ask for help and whom are in positions to open more networks and get information from. Last September, the Froebel College of Education opened opportunity for the artists from Yemen to an exchange of dialogue with the students on diversity and the woman's place in Yemeni society. There were a couple of art workshops and a food forum introducing some Yemeni dishes and discussion about traditions. The outcome was incredible, the students, teachers and college were very impressed and praised the artists and The Yemen Connection. I endevour to continue with such projects which will enlighten everyone on each others' cultures and bring about good relations between the East and West.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

I am excited to have learned about the ALF projects and initiatives encouraging dialogue and integration in Europe and the Mediterranean and believe it is the network I've been looking for to help me develop my ideas into reality by way of contacts and some funding when necessary.
All my projects focused on show casing Arabian arts and culture to the Irish and international audiences living in Ireland in the hope that people will change their perception of the Arabs.
Although I have had some assistance, it has been difficult trying to create and organise such events by my self and I hope by joining the ALF I'll be able to continue achieving goals.

General Information
Askeaton Contemporary Arts is organised by a director/curator, assisted by a curatorial assistant. In Askeaton the project is supported by a local advisory board, Askeaton Civic Trust, Askeaton Community Council and many local businesses and individuals. Nationally, funding has been obtained from the Arts Council, Create, Limerick County Council and Shannon Development. Other recent partners have included Independent Curators International, New York. Programme funding in 2012 amounted to 42,000 euro. In 2012 our programme consists of five artist commissions culminating in a resulting exhibition and catalogue, one long term artist residency, and our seventh annual summer residency programme with five Irish and international artists, accompanied by a public open day and various events.
Mission and Objectives

Founded in 2006, Askeaton Contemporary Arts aims to promote and provide contemporary visual art to the locale of Askeaton, County Limerick. By developing community involvement and understanding of how art might be produced and experienced in this locality, ACA aims to open up new possibilities of how contemporary art might operate as a socially-engaged and critically-led entity in the region, while concurrently supporting the production of new artists’ projects. Askeaton Contemporary Arts has introduced the work of artists from Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Mexico, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Northern Ireland and Ireland to Askeaton. Over forty Irish and international artists have worked in the town in the last seven years.

Main Projects / Activities

Residencies, commissions and exhibition projects are frequently organised, often taking the everyday life of Askeaton as a subject. Local interaction with the artists and artworks are not only as audience, often they are actively implicated into the development of the artwork itself through their assistance or participation. Furthermore, with no ‘white-cube’ spaces in Askeaton, artists work in various venues throughout the town, and are incorporated into the everyday life of the locale. As a signifier of the quality of this initiative, subsequent projects have been exhibited throughout Ireland and Europe, including the 2011 Istanbul Biennial. For a full archive of projects produced please consult www.askeatonarts.com

How can you contribute to the Network in your country?

Askeaton Contemporary Arts' ethos and programming presents something not overtly represented in the Irish network: a developed understanding of regional programming, community-based social dialogue through interaction with international contemporary art. We aim to facilitate intercultural understanding with people living outside the mainstream urban center through this form of dialogue. This is built on the belief that art can offer alternative viewpoints and genuine social change to its locale, and ACA has endeavoured to work with these goals. This form of engagement with contemporary art focuses on working within the existing dynamics of a small town, intending to bring forward the diverse layers of daily life and create a rich framework for subjective encounters. The investigations led by artists here ultimately leads to a de-mystication of the artistic process, and allows for a frank exchange of values between the regional and international, and between local and universal values. We believe these are aspects that can enrich the Irish Network.

Why do you want to join the ALF Network?

Askeaton Contemporary Arts are interested in how art might be produced and experienced in this locality, how art might operate outside a city environment. Artists from throughout the world have worked here, with a variety of projects facilitated and produced in direct relationship to the community of the town. We treat this as a platform for developing the role of contemporary art as a socially-engaged and critically-led medium. We believe that joining the ALF network will allow our organisation to develop further and crucial understanding of contemporary and progressive idioms of cultural diversity.
